I think the players that are a lock to be moved next season are Mrazek, Kerfoot, and Holl. That would give us 9.3 million plus the additional 1 mill cap increase.
We resign
Mikheyev 3.75 x 3
Engvall 2.5 x 2
Blackwell 1 x 1
Kase 1.2 x 1
Gio 1.5 x 2
Boosh 1.5 x 2
Lily 2.25 x 2
Sandin 1.5 x 2
Soup 3 x 3

Bunting Matthews Marner
Mikheyev Tavares Nylander
Engvall Kampf Kase
Clifford Blackwell Simmonds

Mo Lyubushkin
Muzzin Brodie
Gio Liljegren
Sandin

Campbell
Kallgren

Total team cap is 81.93 million.
Players like Simmonds and Clifford could be sent down to bring up younger cheaper players like Douglas, Steeves etc giving a little more room.

Steeves has a chance....don't think Douglas does.

I think if the team goes out in round 2...88 is likely not here...and it's pretty much because JT and 88 don't have chemistry.

We're not far off on numbers.

I think your Mikhayev deal is good

Engvall likely less and maybe another year of term (look at Kuraly as a UFA vs Engvall as RFA)
Kase I don't know if they bring back because of injury problems
Giordano only 1 year
Lybushkin probably commands 1.75-2M for 2 years
Campbell likely costs around 4.5M but it'll really depend on the playoffs if they go back to him.

I don’t see why Campbell would get more than what Mrazek got in free agency.

Steeves for sure has a shot next season. Agree on Douglas. Could see him replacing Simmonds after next year.

I think quite a few teams have goaltending issues and that'll drum up interest on Campbell.

Mrazek's good years were generally on some very good defensive teams. I think public perception on Toronto is still we're sloppy defensively. Also guys just generally do well financially after being on the Leafs. I always thought the Bernier deal was a reasonable comparable.

I could be totally wrong and just expressing opinion :)

Campbell's number were very close to Forsberg's this year. Hoping the contract will be closer to that than Bernier.

The only case he will have for a better contract is with a deep playoff run full of decent play. Then he'd probably get 3-4.5mil over 5 years.

If he flops he will probably have to settle for a 1 year cheaper "prove it" deal. Or take 2-3mil over 2-3 years.

Taking a small sample size like the NHL playoffs and basing long term big money contracts on it is a fools game

How often have we seen somebody have a great playoffs get paid then turn back into what they have always been? To often

I think paying him 4-5M with term is a mistake, I don't like months long swoons like he had this season and I'd explore every available option before I'd even entertain paying him "starter" type cash

Even if he has a great playoffs

If we lose again in the first round we need a big shake up. I personally would try to convince JT to wave his NTC, trade Willy and Kerfoot. That's a ton of money out, bring in skilled guys who are physical and need to bring an elite goalie

Boston might want JT, Bergeron is UFA and said he is year to year at this point.

Calgary may want another centre.

Maybe NYI would take him back?

Minnesota lacks a top line centre.

Minny wouldn't be able to afford him.

JT would have to approve any trade. I doubt he’d want to even go to Minnesota.

I don’t see Tavares going anywhere. How ugly would his buyout be if it came to that?

He was willing to meet with Dallas, Boston, Tampa, Toronto and I think there were 2 other teams.

It's 2 games but he's been very pedestrian, not like a guy I would like to allocate 11M in cap towards.

10.3 for his 3 years
Then a cap hit of 300 k for the next 3

He gets full sb so he is buyout proof.

Which is fine because there is no way you buy out an approximately ppg C.

Tavares has scored 25-35 goals 75-85 pts his entire career. His outlier of 47 goals was still an 88 pt season

He hasn’t regressed really. He still gets his points.

He will be fine for 3 years then sign a spezza special for his last 3.

The only Tavares move I see happening is him being moved to the wing next year. Let him take the faceoffs and then slide to the wing.

Then who can we get as a 2nd line C? Not an easy position to fill…,,

Try to trade willy for a c?

Why move him to the wing? He's good defensively, good on the draw, and is a ppg centre...

JT has been barely noticeable so far this playoffs, I really hope he makes an Impact because there's not much more Matty and Mitch can do with 5 points each in two games so far.

he's not playing with any talent ...Mik is a bit of a puck hog, who cant pass, and Kerfoot also holds onto the puck too much. JT's a shooter, and has nobody setting him up, so, he's alone trying to make space, and he's getting the double teams that worked so well on Matthews last year, because other than him, there is no pure goal scoring threat.
Nylander needs to move back up with JT, so TB can fixate on him and let Nylander get open/free looks Kerfoot is okay on the line as long as Nylander is there with him.

There won't be a second contract for him if the leafs fail this year. He'll have cost us 1 of marner/Nylander due to no showing and having an unmovable contract

He needs to step it up and protect his own legacy as a leaf player and captain. Dude has been invisible for 80% of his playoff games as a leaf
