I don't think the Tavares deal is feasible because Trouba refuses to work in Canada. I like the idea of swapping him for a bloated contract though. San Jose could be a fit and they were one of the teams he interviewed with when he was a FA. Tavares for Burns + Reimer.

Trouba isn’t a bloated contract at all. He’s a top pairing defensemen with a very unique blend of skills. He’s actually the exact type of defenseman we’ve needed forever.

Don't feel as though we see player swaps of NMC for NMC very much. Think those clauses stop any idea of a Tavares for Trouba trade from the get-go.

If your concern with Tavares is an overpaid, past-his-prime star and your solution is to trade him for Burns and Reimer, I've got some beans to sell ya!

I am off this board for a few days, and come back to stuff like this?

I mean, this is just straight up disconnected from anything leafs related for some time.

Burns brings something pretty valuable though. He’s a high risk defensemen, but he’s still good for 50+ points and he can be an intimidating presence. A lot of his defensive issues stem more from him being up ice rather than an inability to actually defend.

I’m not sure I want him for 8 million bucks, but I think him at 8 might be better than Tavares at 11.

What the hell does that accomplish? Who steps in for Matthews? Who plays 2c? You want Reimer & mrazek as your tandem next year? Are we tanking?

It’s shannyplan, that’s just what they do here. You gotta admit. That poster is skilled at making the current team and prospect pool worse simultaneously in a Jim benning type fashion with those proposed moves.

and you think that's what the Leafs could use? Another high risk defenseman, with defensive issues?

Another? Who are all these high risk leaf defensemen?

Mo.

But when you look at the Leafs, somehow you conclude we need a D man, who helps offensively, particularly on the PP, but isn't that good defensively. You really think these are needs of the Leafs, not currently being filled?

If that's what you got out of my post, I would suggest you go back an re-read what I actually posted.

Somebody else suggested trading John Tavares for Brent Burns, then another poster dismissed it. I made a post that suggested Burns may be better at 8 million than Tavares at 11.

I’m convinced these people don’t actually watch and pay attention.

Montreal wins draft lottery, that's too bad I really like Shane Wright. Been pumping his tires for years. His hype train has died down the last year or so though. He used to be called Generational or at one notch below, now it's more like probably an all star but not someone you can build a team around.

It's actually good for us.

I knew Paul was big and played pretty physical but he’s turned it up a notch in these playoffs with Tampa. I wonder what it would take to acquire him via free agency this off-season.

Paul would be a great addition if the contract makes sense.

I wouldn’t pay him 3.5 million. Kerfoot was coming off two 40+ point seasons to start his NHL career when signing that contract. Paul at 27 just had his career year totalling at 32 points. He’s also a local guy so hopefully he takes a small little discount to sign here especially if we knock the Lightning out. 4 years at 2.5 million. Ideally we’d re-sign Mikheyev to a similar dollar figure and have a third line of Paul - Kampf - Mikheyev.
