Kerfoot is valued by the Leafs front office. Of his 51 points this season, 47 are from even strength. Plus he PKs.

I don't see them paying anyone to take him even if they opt to try and trade him

I can see them selling lower on Kerfoot than what we expect, but definitely not giving him away.

I set my expectations at a 2nd + late pick.

I’m sure you’d be able to get more than that. A 2nd and a B level prospect I think you’d easily get.

Why are we trading kerfoot?

51 points and he pks, can play on any line.

Unless you badly need capspace, there isn't a reason to move this type of player
This is what I'm thinking.

Why do the Leafs really want to trade Kerfoot? His versatility has been a major asset, especially when injuries roll around. They're highly unlikely to find a player who can provide similar value on the open market for less than $3.5 million.

Mikeheyev is already walking. Dubas' biggest priority to trim fat will be to pay someone to take Mrazek.

People are probably hoping Robertson can step into a full time NHL role next year and replace Kerfoot at a way cheaper cap hit.

We have decent LW depth in Robertson/Anderson/Steeves who should all be pushing for a full time LW spot with Engvall and Bunting ahead of them.

Don't worry about it man - all good!

Feel free to pop in anytime to discuss potential Leafs/Preds trades.

It will be rare. Only to pitch selling Preds cap space for deals. Based on the math I've seen on HF, I'm hoping for a 3rd. A 3rd for Myers 610K of cap space. (HF found 1 mil = 2nd and the draft probability says you have an almost equal chance to get an NHLer.)

So, back on thread Myers for your 3rd?

I’ve been one of kerf’s biggest supporters on here, but I believe the thought process is to move Kerfoot while he’s still an asset you can cash in on (ufa after next season, 10 team ntc) and try and keep the guys in house who are playing well and need extensions (Engvall, Mikheyev specifically & Blackwell to a lesser extent)
If you can fill Alex’s roster spot (not spot in the line up necessarily) with an ELC like Robertson Anderson Steeves Etc. then you can try and use the remaining savings of 2.7m or so to retain cobra who’s just coming into his own, and or Engvall who has one year of RFA status left before going ufa himself. Adding that 2.7 to cobra along his current cap hit puts him in mid fours, that’s pretty rich imo, but who knows? I don’t think anyone expected Hyman to get $40 last year in FA. You hopefully could get a medium to long extension done with a cobra for kerfoots aav and I think the spare change of that (about $1m accounting for an ELC Kerfoot fill-in) can get you Engvall and/or Blackwell contracts in place.
This allows them to backfill some of the expended assets in recent years, Open up a spot for a young guy or multiple guys to compete for, and retain one of the leagues best third lines. They might have all our firsts but there are no seconds and a third missing in the next few drafts. (Not mad about it, just stating facts, I really like the acquisitions of lyubushkin, Gio & blackwell.)

The Myers cap space the next season is offset with a similar penalty the year after, which is the final year of Nylander, Matthews, Brodie & Muzzin’s deal.
After being shackled with Phil Kessel’s retention for 7 seasons I can’t see Toronto having any interest in having any dead cap that year, which will prove pivotal in the future of our team.
Not to mention with bringing in Myers to play with the Marlies I don’t think Toronto could acquire then buy out and resign. I think they would be interested in the player once bought out though.
There isn’t an impending cap crunch this upcoming season for Toronto, look to Vegas or Minnesota.

Raises required and Goalie question marks. Agreed no need to do it unless space is needed....but I think we will need.
A few cheap elc additions from the marlies will help too

pretty good break down, i think you could get a different player then Blackwell for the same money

Returning for sure:
AM, MM, Bunts, Tavares, Engvall, Kampf, Reilly, Brodie, Sandin, Lily

Contract players who potentially could be on market (playoff result pending)
Willie, Muzz, Kerfoot, Holl, Mrazek, Kase (RFA - could be traded or retire)
Simmonds/Clifford to Marlies, constant waiver wire

UFA to try and resign
Gio, Boosh, Mik (if we can afford hit), Campbell (playoff dependent)

UFAs to walk
Spezza (retire), Blackwell

Promotions
Steeves, Anderson, Robertson

UFA/Trade targets, mid 6 and bottom line, RD with Size, and Goalie
- A guy like Sturm, Lazar, Acciari, Deslauriers who can skate and hit for the 4th line would be a nice add.
- Maybe a hometown 1 year prove me for Domi.
- Change of scenery Mrazek for Dreidger?
- Muzzin back to LA for one of their excess RD's

Depending what happens in playoffs all of Willie, Kerfoot, Muzz and Campbell could go for a retool on the middle 6 and goalie department.

Bunts - AM - MM
Robertson - Tavares - Mikheyev
Engvall - Kerfoot - Nylander
Anderson - Kampf - Kase
Steeves

Reilly - Brodie
Gio - Lily
Sandin - Boosh

Campbell

Flames Gaudreau is UFA.
How much does a 28/29 year old 100+ point player get today?

Flames Tkachuk is RFA.
How much does a 24 year old 100+ point player get today?

Talking two of the top 8 offensive players in the NHL.

Looking forward to see what happens here in Calgary.

Even if the leafs lose in round one, trading Nylander would be a huge mistake. Moving on from Kerfoot, Mrazek, Holl, Muzzin, Campbell, should all be options though. We have no one to replace willy and none of our prospects have a ceiling thats close.

Yeah, have to put him in the top 3 fowards on the team right now.
And no one in the system seems to have that sort of upside.

Both should get Marner/Tavares money but probably won't from Calgary.

I think the players that are a lock to be moved next season are Mrazek, Kerfoot, and Holl. That would give us 9.3 million plus the additional 1 mill cap increase.
We resign
Mikheyev 3.75 x 3
Engvall 2.5 x 2
Blackwell 1 x 1
Kase 1.2 x 1
Gio 1.5 x 2
Boosh 1.5 x 2
Lily 2.25 x 2
Sandin 1.5 x 2
Soup 3 x 3

Bunting Matthews Marner
Mikheyev Tavares Nylander
Engvall Kampf Kase
Clifford Blackwell Simmonds

Mo Lyubushkin
Muzzin Brodie
Gio Liljegren
Sandin

Campbell
Kallgren

Total team cap is 81.93 million.
Players like Simmonds and Clifford could be sent down to bring up younger cheaper players like Douglas, Steeves etc giving a little more room.

Don't mind some of the signings. I like the idea of bringing Blackwell back on a 1 or 2 year deal. Even 3 years if they can bring down the AAV on his contract.

Personally, I think MIkheyev hits a homerun in free agency. I could see him getting a 6 year deal. He's going to look at what Hyman and Blake Coleman signed for last off-season and he's going to say that he brings similar intangibles that they bring in terms of penalty killing and the speed. There's always teams out there that will pay it.

Everyone else, I'm okay with, but the biggest question mark for me is what happens with Muzzin. He's come back recently, but right now my guess is he's 50/50 to return.

Also, if we take a look at turnover on the roster on a year to year basis, the last regular season game against Winnipeg from 2020-21 season had -- Galchenyuk, Foligno, Brooks, Thornton, Dermott & Hutton.

The last couple years haven't been normal in terms of free agency, but my guess would be that there is likely to be some more turnover.
