Yep, I doubt Duszak is because the intention behind all of that was to see if he could get an NHL chance.

I think Menell could definitely still go for Future Considerations (AHL contract return). Marlies could try to land a capable vet D on an AHL deal to replace some of the Biega influence maybe.

Would be smart, but I don't see teams wanting Menell's 400k salary TBH.

I wonder if everyone considers the VAN swap of Hamonic for a 3rd, then Dermott for a 3rd a bit of GM flexing on Vancouvers part.

If Hamonic is older, paid much more, and worse than Dermott, then they either got Ottawa to bite and grossly overpay for him, or we sold Dermott for less than we should have.

I think the value is pretty close here, but it would take quite the overpay to pry Tuch out of Buffalo. He's a big leader for that young squad.

Ya, I'd say overpay by Ottawa. The guy was literally on waivers earlier this season. Been some people on radio including Seravalli and Marc Methot that suggested players on the Canucks were really happy to see Hamonic gone.

Seeing that former canuck defenseman on one of the trade centre shows cream himself after they interviewed Dermott gave me a chuckle. Dude had no value as a Leaf, but his potential doubled overnight after being sent to the Canucks.

This deadline was the dumbest general manager work I've ever seen. If you questioned the credentials and skills of the "old boys club" GMs before, how could you not now.. Just a bunch of dumbass old white GTHL guys who gave each other jobs and do their scouting by watching TSN and claiming whatever Leafs scrap happens to be talked about for the past 24 hours because they're on waivers.

Chiarot getting a 1st should have shut the league down for an investigation into tampering, like come on

Yeah, I don't know what to make of any of this anymore. Between this year's the Aldrich/Blackhawks fiasco, the travesty of NHL officiating we're seeing this year (with the build up to this year happening over the last 4-5 years), the ridiculous NHL DPS decisions, this year's TDL player valuations/prices, the inexplicable and complete failure of our goaltending to produce even Mendoza-line performances, Amirov's diagnosis... I just can't think of a more f***ed up season. Maybe rivals some of the Ballard-era years at MLG, who knows.

you’re forgetting that Hamonic is right handed.. the classic overpay for a RHD

Apparently they hated Hamonic in Vancouver, and he's definitely really bad. It's typical Ottawa & DJ Smith fawning over bad "defensive" defenseman when they have prospects they could be playing as they get closer to the end of their rebuild.

As for Derms, I do think it was a smart piece of business by JR. Upgrade the defense by essentially swapping out a significantly worse player. As I said earlier, I do think Derms value is probably a 2nd, but with the fact that he both asked for a trade + teams knew we weren't going to play him/keep him on the bench I think we "settled" for a 3rd. I mean if I was Edmonton or Nashville I'd DEFINITELY have given up the 2nd for Dermott instead of Kulak/Lauzon though, but what do I know.

Hamonic was highway robbery, that's just a ridiculous price to pay. Dermott, within the range of a guy who hadn't progressed, and was often a healthy scratch.

I'd easily lean towards an Ottawa overpay. I wouldn't have expected more than a playoff team's 2nd in return for Dermott.

Did Dermott ask for a trade? I mean I don't blame him or anything, just don't remember seeing it.
