We gotta consider signing this guy. Has been lights out on Finnish Liiga playoffs and is just 19. Incredibly calm and mature. Would instantly be our #1 goalie prospect

Nick Malik
Since he's playing in a European pro league, and he's under 21, he has to be drafted first (either this year or next; after that he can be signed by anyone).

Similar idea between Tor and Van with reports Miller is not re-signing.

2 years of W. Nylander @ 6.9 AAV

for

1 year of J.T Miller @ 5.25 AAv (save 1.5 AAV on the cap for an upgrade to offense and physicality)
1st 2022 (mid first)

Leafs kind of go all in here upgrading the player at cost of term. Add a good prospect to their pool in the process and save a bit of cap.

So we get Miller for one season and give up 2 seasons of Nylander for a mid 1st? Miller isn't Kawhi, and he's not re-signing in Canada.

Seems like a really good way to make things shittier for the Leafs going forward.

Nylander is a PPG forward who can be very soft at times. Miller is currently on a 100 point pace and is a PWF. The point would be going all in, getting a player for cheaper who produces more and plays a game we want more of. The first is to even up the value of the term between the two, adding a good prospect to our pool to replace the depth lost when he walks.

My proposal assume we do not re-sign Miller. This is a lose a year of term for a better player who will walk.

Bad deal dude .. bad bad .. Willy has far superior skills than JT .. Willy is 4 years younger .. why would we want da weaker player .. team will get much worse .. that type of trade requires 2 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick and even then I would not do it

Only reason that you trade Willy is for an upgrade on D
so maybe some around Chychrun would make the most sense but you would need to move Muzz(think we do anyway)
Chychrun/Mo/Sandin on the left side for the next 4 seasons would be nice

A Kawhi style trade in the NHL would need to be for a guy who’s won a championship already, won the Conn Smythe doing it, is still in his prime, and is considered one of the best players in the game.

The only guy that fits that description is Vasilevsky and uhhhhh I don’t think Tampa is trading him any time soon.

I don't feel as though Miller is the NHL equivalent to Leonard. I also don't think that Vancouver is the type of team that could give up a 1st for what might only be one more season (in comparison to Miller) of Nylander before he can potentially walk away as a UFA.

I thought we'd be trading for Crosby, at least he's closer to Kawhi then Miller.

Anyhow, we don't need such a trade. This isn't the NBA where Toronto has trouble selling free agents on playing here, plus you don't need superstars to win the cup (though it helps of course) and even if you do need superstars to win, we already have a couple.

This trade also sucks, I'd rather keep Nylander.

This might not be bad if we knew for sure Nylander doesn’t want to sign here but that isn’t the case. You’re talking a one year difference but it could be 10

Miller is not Kawhi and Miller would even say that himself. Cmon now

Situation and contract aside, Mackinnon would be a better comparison to Kawhi (top 5 player).

edit - Actually now that I think of it, because NBA teams can run a rotation of only 8 or 9 guys in the post season (instead of 18 + a goalie in the NHL) the player value of 1 NBA player is about double the value of an NHL player so you would need 2 NHL players coming back. The equivalent value to getting Kawhi would be like getting 1 year of Kucherov and Hedman in exchange for 2 years of Nylander and Muzzin and young prospects Sandin/Liliegren (Poetl) + a 1st. This doesn't include Danny Green either.
