That's another option - move him for a guy with an even lower buyout penalty. They've been creative with these sorts of trades before so lots of potential opportunities could happen.

I think if the Leafs do indeed want Mrazek gone, he will be without too much trouble.one way or the other.

I agree. People always like to pretend like Maple Leafs assets are so radioactive when players have rough seasons but the reality is there's always a worse situation that needs warm bodies. Some teams also don't have massive cap restrictions and some teams are looking to sink to the bottom of the ocean.

Brodie's is good, especially since he replaced Barrie and defends well but I wouldn't mind if we could move him or Muzzin to free up $5+m cap space. Better to move a player one year too early than one year too late.
I really hope that's the plan with Muzzin this off-season. Use those funds to get a Muzzin-like player on the right side. Someone to play with Rielly.

Not sure who that player is though. Maybe Manson? I know he's struggled a bit over the last few years but by all accounts has had a strong playoffs.

Blackwood, I believe, is an anti-vaxxer. If that is the case, I highly doubt the Leafs would bring him in.
He ended up getting vaxxed mid season when there was a chance NHLers were still going to the Olympics and he was very much in play for Team Canada.

Leafs IMO. Mrazek has negative value. Abrussezze <= Katchouk IMO but I have no idea what the Hawks think of him.
Aside from his compete level, not sure why people value Katchouk so highly? Is it because he came from the Tampa Bay organization? Aside from 29 games in 2020/2021 in the AHL, his pro career has been pretty underwhelming to date. It’s also not like we’re talking about a 19/20 year old either, he’s 23. He also looked pretty awful post deadline in a Hawks jersey. To call that deal highway robbery is pretty laughable IMO.

A couple of posters like Katchouk but I am not sure Abrussezze alone is enough of a sweetener to get the Hawks to take Mrazek. Hawks would have to send a bad contract back to make that deal work IMO. Maybe we take a Carter Hutton (who retired yesterday) back like we did after the Ritchie trade.

I think the Chicago deal is something like Mrazek for Connolly (1 year less of term but Chicago needs a goalie, has zero).

Or Mrazek for Borgstrom, Khaira (perma LTR) - Leafs need to add something to this though.

He was an above average player for Tampa this year but his points and underlying numbers plummeted in Chicago. He hits a ton and is still fairly young as you mentioned. He also played in the Soo which makes him an ideal Dubas target on paper.

The Leafs have drafted a grand total of two (2) players from the Soo Greyhounds since Dubas took over. People make it seem like it's upwards of 20.

There are other connections though, Clifford and Campbell are 2 he had connections with in the past as well.

The head coach...

It does feel like he's moved away from that route a bit though.

Ah yes - that terrible Campbell trade that really blew up in their face.

I could understand if bad players were being targeted but by all accounts, Sandin, Bunting and Campbell have all been very good Leafs. Clifford was part of the Campbell deal.

So what are people upset about? The Mac Hollowell 5th round pick?

People need to get over this.
I know the narrative is hyperbole but Dubas has acquired a lot of players that played in the Soo:
Muzzin
Campbell
Sandin
Hollowell
Bunting
Simmonds
Thornton
Kopacka

While Dubas was GM of the Marlies:
Andrew Campbell
Brett Findlay

In the case of Katchouk it would be a trade, not drafting.

I wouldn't equate pointing out something as upset. It certainly has worked out more often than not based upon what you've shown.

Sorry - that wasn't directed at you. It just seems people around here in general get up in arms when a player that played for the Soo gets connected to the Leafs as if to say it hasn't worked out well the majority of the time.

The odds that your head coach and literally 20% of your playoff roster all randomly played for the same junior team isn’t a clear bias is silly.

There are what 200 teams they could have played for? OHL. Whl. Q. College. Europe.

It’s insane

If the Leafs keep Muzzin (which I don't think is the right long term move) they should send Sandin to LAK from one of their 2020 drafted RHD (Grans/Faber). Grans is 6'3 and put up pretty good offensive numbers in the AHL as a 19 year old. Faber is the #1D for Minnesota and played the most minutes for the U.S. at the Olympics as a 19 years old. Both players are 2 draft years younger than Sandin and play the more coveted side. This would leave no replacement for 2LD once Muzzin and Gio are up in 2 years but LD is much easier to fill than RD as this team has proved over the last 20 years.

I wouldn't sleep on Kral....solid just not flashy but don't know if the upside is there beyond 3rd pairing, 2nd if they got super lucky.

Because of his age I was thinking 5M x2 years?

The playoff production is super appealing.

For 2 years that might fit but that is a high AAV .. I might go 3 years at $4 AAV.

IMO he's an upgrade to Kerfoot .. more consistent producer and goal scorer. Playoff track record. Kills penalties and can play the PP. Plays both sides.

Could fit nicely on the second or third line. Might even gel with Matthews/Marner.
