Zacha is another Ritchie with less snarl. Great tools no toolbox.

This is so understated by the navel gazers here, it wasn’t a couple of 1 gamers like the Clifford hit, they were all series/season ending Dale Hunter quality. His boneheaded play cost his team in 4 straight playoff runs, yet the leafs a team who craves and is dying for post season success is somehow worse off without him?
Cost two runs

He was back in 2018. The leafs were supposed to lose that series in 5 or 6. We made it close and got to game 7 up 4-3. Kadri was there when we pulled another choke

2020 vs the stars he was on the ice. He made a bad play in game 7 but was terrific the entire playoff run and series included.

Marner made a dumb pass in game 6 OT which ended up coming back and being the GWG for the Bolts? No one seriously thinks he cost us the game or the series especially with how good he was for 80% of the series vs Tampa

2019 and 2021 for sure can see that. We probably close the Bruins in 2019 if he's there and the Avs are more likely to beat the Knights with him there in 2021

I think this is flawed logic comparing a Kadri trade to a Nylander trade. The Kadri trade made the Leafs softer to play against AND less skilled. Dubas seems to appreciate the value of players that are hard to play against now. Based off everything Dubas has said over the last year you'd think that if he trades Nylander it may be a downgrade on skill but in exchange for being a harder team to play against.

Kadri also had 3 years remaining at 4.5M and was a 2 time 30 goal C. Nylander is in a less premium position and he's paid 6.9M while also only having 2 30 goal seasons.

Contracts aside, if you could trade Nylander right now for the exact player Kadri was when he was traded: a 2C with 2 30 goal season under his belt who is hard to play against but less skilled than Nylander - would you do it?
I was not comparing the Kadri trades to any potential Willie trade. I have been stating the problem with the Kadri trade is the fact that Kadri is byfar the best player in the trade and none of the other pieces are just solid. The lesson from the Kadri trade is that Dubas needs to make sure he is getting the best player from that trade and not a few solid pieces for a superior player.

As to your question, I assume it is Willie for Kadri at that time, to me which is the current JT Miller since you said contracts aside. The answer is yes, Willie for JT Miller would make sense bc even if one of them is better, it is only slightly.

No, they are comparing skating.
Fox is still a much better skater. Fox doesn't skate like Hughes or Makar but he is still pretty good.
I think some here just look at Defender X and say, he doesn't skate like Makar or Hughes or Reilly or Josi, and he is doing well, and think Sandin can do that too. Which is not the case bc Sandin's speed is a problem esp for his size.

Actually if Sandin were on another team, the Fox comparisons would be rampant. Remember, HFBoards is the place where they said Victor Mete/WIll Butcher were better than Morgan Rielly after 10 games.

It's only on here where we police ourselves into being pretty pessimistic about young players.
Thats only bc Reilly is a Leafs. And do we laugh about those comparions?
I think all fans over-rate their young players. As I used to see my Nucks friends who kept saying Jake Virtanen is going to be great....and I just say, he can skate but he is too dumb to do all other things. OR Habs fans thinking Caufield can outscore AM.

Still think if we are trading Sandin, it needs to be centered around getting a winger to play in the top 6 beside Willy and Tavares, and that said player has term. We have been searching the past 3 years.

Think like a Conor Garland type of player, where he's under contract for another 4 years, is somewhat young and has a reasonable cap hit of 4.9m. Any other players that come to mind?

Toronto cannot afford to trade a cost controlled asset for a player with one or two years left like a JT Miller/Patty Kane player.

Niederreiter would be a fantastic addition to play alongside Tavares and Nylander and it would only cost us salary cap to acquire this off-season.

Shergonovich, he's got a year at 2.2M and then a RFA

Beauvillier, 4.1M, 2 years then UFA

Viana, 5.25M, 2 years then UFA

Jordan Greenway, 3M, 3 years then UFA

to anybody don't care who: dubas/keefe/shanahan

to the leafs: bag of doritos (cheddar/jalapeno if available if not any bag will do). if u got no doritos you can have them for free

Isn't the point of moving Tavares or Nylander to the third line is they don't gel together? Moving both down seems strange.

Sandin was never given a chance to come back in. Liljegren was quickly removed and scratched… for Justin Holl…

It was clear Keefe and Dubas were desperate to win and didn’t trust how the young guts had developed thus far.

In a 7 game playoff series though. I wouldn't expect them to have the same mindset come day 1 of preseason.

They're basically still the 2nd line. I just stuck them 3rd to show that they get really soft matchups.

They also have stretches where they're really good together. It's not like they don't have chemistry. If I wanted to separate them, it would be to construct 3 scoring lines. But I think it's better to get 1 incredible 2-way line, 1 sheltered scoring line and 2 pure defence line.

I'm fine giving them opportunities to grow and learn, but the coach has to be on board.... and he also has to be capable of helping them get better. I have no faith in Keefe on either front.

No one is saying Sandin = Fox, you know that right?

The Fox-Sandin comparison is bit of a game. The argument goes because both are small, slow-ish and smart there's an implied upside attached to Sandin. Maybe he's got Norris upside... Not like anyone is going to compare him to Francis Boullion or Tobias Enstrom or even a Kimmo Timonen.

Niederreiter would be a fantastic addition to play alongside Tavares and Nylander and it would only cost us salary cap to acquire this off-season.

Neiderreiter actually has been very underwhelming in the playoffs.

Reilly Smith has been a pretty reliable producer.

I know others will disagree but 88 would be my big change this off-season, good player but we've tinkered with literally everything except the core at this point, make a big change.

"But Washington but..." NO. Those players won rounds at various points. We have won zero rounds. Furthermore, we don't have super long term deals in place with Matthews and Marner, we need to show them progress.

We'll be able to add Knies maybe by the end of the year too.

Hell no. To any of that crap.

We need to aim higher. lol

You over value the crap out of Sandin.

Sandin + 1st for Vrana would be an absolutely great deal for us. We'd get a Nylander lite for the next two years

Bjorkstad same thing. He's been a 60ish point winger on a bad CBJ offensive team. With the leafs he's got 2 elite players to play with any time. He'd be an amazing add not that the jackets would move him most likely

Beauvillier/Greenway yeah wouldn't be worth it really just were some guys with multi year term who could play with 88 and 91 and were I'm 4-5M range

Sandin isn't going to bring back an elite 1W. Getting good complimentary top 6 wingers is the target if we do move him.

Bjorkstad/Vrana both have great shots and can finish. They'd be great fits for line 2 and help solve our offensive issues in the playoffs
