The other risk is Nylander hasn't even peaked yet. If you go lateral route value wise but different skillsets, that lateral player may have peaked, whereas Nylander pops off for 90 regular season points and a nice 10 goals 20 assists in the playoffs. Nylander even has the potential for at least one 100 point season before he retires.
It’s funny how on one thread people are screaming at Dubas for making the Kadri trade and in other threads, let’s trade Willie for a bunch of okay players bc he is soft and needs cap space.

The lesson from the Kadri trade is make sure the Leafs is getting the best player in return instead of a few good pieces.
Look at the Kadri trade, the Phil trade….
I think the only trade where the team got a great haul while losing the best player at the time is the Lindros trade but that also had a lot to do with Forsberg developing into a much better player than anyone thought.

Definitely. Find one Bunting to go with the better asset and you're laughing. It's not cheating to say something like Nylander + Bunting (insert the idea of breakout player that begins on low cap hit) averages out to two 4 mil players. Fully valid logic in a cap world.

Two actual 4 mil players are inferior to having the one better asset and then putting your GM to work to see who he can surround the better asset with.

The funniest thing is that Nylander hasn't done a single thing as brain dead as Kadri did when he was here.

The big problem with the Kadri trade is that the vast majority of the cap space went to Kerfoot. We just used the same cap space to get a far inferior player.

Beside players coming in with ELC, there might be less Bunting than 100 pts players in the league, lol.
That’s why Bunting is a unicorn in itself, in terms of Cap hit Vs production.

An example where he got exposed in the playoffs. Let’s run it with Sandin and see if he will get expose too.

I know. In terms of brain dead thing, MM flipping the puck over the glass during PK last year and flipping the puck in OT against TB were never brought up. If Willie done them, it will be Frank Sinatra singing ‘Send Will to the Moon.’ Lol.

Weegar also playing on his off-side.

Seabrook and Hjalmarsson weren't especially speedy either, just smart.

Sandin is young, he'll get better with experience.

Seabrook was not as bad as Sandin and Hammer was a force.

Sandin lacks the size and speed to be a top Dman in the league.
He might be a solid Top 4 if he continues to build strength

Barrie can skate, and move the puck.
Ceci is a #6 Dman and quite frankly, Holl is a little bit better.

Oilers are in the WCF bc they took advantages of matchups and other teams weakness. The moment they play a solid team, they are being outplayed and down 3-0

His skating will always prevent him from being a top pairing Dman.
I really can’t think of any top pairing Dman that’s as bad as skater as Sandin.
This why you make the big splash for Chychrun and that bomb shot and enjoy a jakob-lil for the next 10 years. As long as we get the best asset back who cares what the haul was that includes sandin. One chychrun point shot getting through could have been the difference in round 1.

Sandin's agility is what matters, not his speed. The talk about his skating is so overblown.

With the puck, his agility matters more than speed but without the puck, speed matters more.

His defence in transition has been a strength. I don't see why his speed would be an issue.

His issue is lack of strength and that he'll occasionally get lost when teams start cycling the puck. Both issues fixed with experience and work.

His speed is an issue bc even 4th liners can beat him in a race.

Shea Weber.
Weber can skate better than Sandin, he also got size, physical and have a shot.

Jesus, Sandin is still a kid
Trading 22 year old defenseman is a mugs game

The cold hard fact is nobody on here knows what this kid could be capable of, maybe he's a Dermott or maybe he's in your top 4 for the next decade

You don't trade that, if he becomes that top 4 stalwart that's the sort of move that gets GM'S fired and organisations regret for years to come

Keep the cheap youth and trade the expensive veterans, that's how you keep your window open and have multiple runs at this thing

Adam fox.
Fox might not skate like Reilly but he can skate and he doesn’t get push around in front of the net.
Stop with all these Sandin will be Fox comparison, it is quite embarrassing. If Sandin is playing in any other teams and their fans use Fox as a comparison, you guys will be laughing non stop. It is the same with Jets fans used to say how Laine will be like Mario or Ovie and Leafs should have consider him over AM…..esp after the WJC or WC.

No one is saying Sandin = Fox, you know that right?
