Florida lost last night to a team playing their third string goalie with McNabb, Martinez, Pacioretty, Stone and Smith missing. A few more as well. Eichel left in the 2nd period.

If the Leafs had lost that game this forum would be talking about blowing it up and firing 'Kid Kyle' (the use of these nicknames speaks to the intelligence level).

The doom and gloom posters should watch hockey other than Leafs hockey once in a while.

Engvall has been the glue and part of our most consistent lines over the past few weeks with Kampf and Mikheyev. Everytime Engvall was bounced between the 3rd and 4th lines, the line he got on was so much better. I don't understand how anyone would be fine with breaking up that line anytime soon let alone trading him for something else.

People talk and scream for a shutdown line and that's literally what it is. By far one of the best checking lines we've ever had in the past 20 years.

That Engvall - Kampf - Mikheyev line just dominates oppositions and Engvall is a good PKer as well. It would be nice to have more nastiness on that line, but it’s working, and has been all season, so why would we break it up?

I think target a couple grinders for the 4th line is a real priority.

one, I don't talk and scream for a shutdown line, but fair points on the success of the line, I don't disagree there. The line is just very soft. We'll see how they handle the postseason. Perhaps the 4th line is where that grit can be obtained.

Honest questions:

1. Between Lindholm and Chychrun, who is the better defenseman?

2. Which of the two would be the better fit for Toronto? Not always is the best player, the best fit for a team.

3. With regards to asset investment, would it be more prudent to go big on Lindholm and hope we can extend him, or go big on Chychrun and know that you have him for three years after this one?

Lol, this is very true. As crazy as it seems, other teams go through frustrating and concerning stretches for their fan base.

Obviously, the Leafs fan base is massive and we tend to have a lot more forum discussions/debates regarding the state of our team.

That’s just the nature of this huge and passionate market. Lots of hot takes and then we tend to take a breath and re-evaluate our perspective… most of the time. Lol

The Pathers fan base probably doesn't even know that the Panthers played last night, let alone lost and who they lost to. They are too busy with March madness and everything NFL. Hell they probably don't care that spring training has started.

Pretty sure Zito would trade fan bases in a second. No sports team prefers apathy but carry on.

IMO if costs are equal, Chychrun. But costs shouldn't be equal. The asking price is apparently ridiculous for Lindholm, has to be even more for Chychrun. I can absolutely see a TDL this year where neither are moved as a result of that.

Rumour is asking price from Florida started with Knight or Lundell. Pretty much tells you we are not getting either.

With teams loading up I'd seriously consider being a seller
Try and move Muzzin, Kerfoot,

Despite our goalie struggles we are 5th in the NHL.

we aren’t selling.

there’s an argument about standing Pat and just letting what happens happen and not spending assets.

but selling from a 5th placed team? silly to suggest

Some fail to understand the difference between apathy and stupidity but carry on.

I'd be interested to learn more about Giordano's NTC. My understanding is that he can block to 12 teams (could be wrong on that). I wonder if Francis will let him pick his team or if he will simply move him to the highest bidder of the teams he is allowed to be traded to.

Seems like the 4th line is the only place this forward group needs upgrading

MacEwen, Motte, etc. all good options that can come relatively cheap. The alternative is the “let the kids” play approach and have some combination of Knies, Abruzzese, Steeves and/or acquire McBain along with Kerfoot.
I want an everyday plus level 4C. A rested Spez playing RW with PP2 and some extra faceoffs is an asset. A tired Spez playing C is a liability. We've got tonnes of good W options

I'm fine with floating Engvall's name out there in terms of upgrade potential. As long as we can replace most of his speed IMO I don't think he'll be missed. Soft as a feather out there and no think in the man at all. Would be nice to find a grinder who can skate.
I thought about suggesting Crouse for that spot but I'm scared of the asking price. Plus that line is money right now. I don't want to mess with it. Maybe Crouse could be signed in the off-season if his price isn't too high.

I think Lindholm is the better defenseman. But if the Ducks can't get Lindholm signed to a reasonable contract, what are the chances that Dubas will? I'd take Chychrun because it removes Dubas from negotiating contracts for star players.

If we keep the Bunting - Tavares - Marner line. Who plays left wing on Matthews - Nylander line? Should we explore a trade for a left wing, for someone who plays like Hyman? Or maybe even trading Nylander in a bigger trade?

Nylander for Chychrun and Crouse?
Nylander for Byram, Kaut, Nichuskin, Barron, Olausson?

YES.

Give them a 3rd and Dermott/Engvall.
My own post from earlier in this thread

Joey Anderson seems like a good base for that trade. Minnesota loves the local boys and Anderson is born and raised, played Minnesota HS, then went to Minn-Duluth.

Anderson doesn’t have a lot of hype or value attached to him but he put up significantly better D1 and D2 number than McBain and was in the NHL in his D3 while McBain had an ok college year before breaking out this year in his D4 as a senior.

More upside for McBain but I think the hype is a little artificially high due to his potential UFA status. Anderson could step right into an NHL lineup today no problem, I think the value is close, maybe a late pick or low end prospect thrown in from us.

It's Hampus Lindholm. If they have plan to re-sign him after, this package is soft and should be met. What top prospect we have guarantee to give the next 3-5 years level of Lindholm? Lindholm can even get career year here still similar to Kadri finally seeing ceiling in Colorado.

I can Leafs entertaining such a move this summer if they lose in round #1.

This is key. If they allow us to negotiate and we can extend him to a long term deal you do this all day. If you can't.... f*** that.

He actually lists 19 teams he can be traded to. If he chooses he can almost much control his destination by choosing clubs that are not in the market for him or his cap hit. It would be a little underhanded and I would not not expect that but he isn't at the mercy of the Kraken "doing right by him."

Rumour has it Lindholm wants 8 years at big money, and why wouldn’t he given the market. Acquiring him, as much as it’d be arguably the biggest move we could make this TDL, simply doesn’t make sense for a guy we have no feasible way of keeping past the summer. Lindholm would be a pure rental
