So yes chiarot can help leafs..

What's the source on this? Is this supposed to be Chiarot-specific? And we're saying that he was basically league-tops in these last year, and then we're seeing a large drop between last playoff and this season?

Okay.... wish we had more than 1 playoff run to confirm whether this is an outlier. Also looks like a pretty big drop between playoffs last year and this season's effectiveness; wonder what last seasons's data was for these same metrics - ie was the rise from season to playoffs similar or did he perform well all season and carried that into the playoffs.

Data can be made to say almost anything. Not questioning you here just adding my thoughts.

Chart is suspect since we have to blindly follow it, but the fact he has us in a "hmmmm" state now is probably what he was looking for. Well played.

You live to see another day Chiarot. We will consider it as long as no 1st round pick. Even if the chart is true he tanked his value to a point you need to question if he can even replicate that.

11th in 1v1 battle won amount every nhl player still excellent.
43 th pass blocked still very good.

We dont expect of chiarot being a top 2 dman, just be harder to play against in leafs zone

Ps rds source is sportlogic

To be fair the guy he's replying to told him not even at minimal cost. I think this thusk guy just handed him a huge L.
Oh fair.

For me I'd like to add a Chiarot type but not at the cost of a 1st. Brendan Dillon (probably not available) would bring the perfect type of snarl needed on this defense.

Independent of cost, I'm not opposed to Chiarot but we already have Boosh and Chiarot would have to line up 2RD, something I'm not at all certain he's capable of.

Yes it's decent but these are point-in-time metrics and we don't have line of sight to trend. Boosh tends to be an analytics darling - I wonder how he stacks. Again not opposed to Chairot in principle but where is he going to play if we have Holl, Boosh, and Lilly all slotted into the 3RD position.

I imagine that the idea behind accumulating blueline depth is based on the hope of making some sort of a playoff run. Rielly, Brodie and a healthy Muzzin would be the locks. Dermott will spell Sandin at times on the left side while Liljegren should figure to do the same for Holl on the right. It somewhat feels a bit tougher to forecast with Lyubushkin right now based on the "new" factor.

I think someone posted it above but Duszak has requested a trade. I imagine the value isn't high but a rebuilding team may see some value in him.

He was a free wallet signing so maybe a mid-late pick would be nice.

yep would love any pick to help refill the cupboards

If the leafs add a top 4 guy and Muzzin returns, who sits?

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-New Guy
Sandin/Lily/Lyubushkin/Holl/Dermott

I'm guessing Dermott gets traded and it is looking like Lyubushkin is a lock leaving 1 spot for Sandin?

Edit: If that is the case Lily development will be delayed further. He will be 23 in April, I really think he needs to be a NHL lock or he will never hit close to his potential

Personally wouldn't mind doing the same with Mikheyev/Engvall and bringing in a heavier forward around the same price point. Someone more geared towards playoff style hockey. Not sure who would fit those parameters though.

I think we need Holl to be our 6th/7th D man to make any kind of run, which means we need a top 4 RHD to supplant him.

So here's where it stands right now. The pairings/order isn't overly important, just listing the likely depth heading towards the playoffs.

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Liljegren
Sandin - Lyub
Dermott - Holl

What the Leafs need is someone that moves the needle if they are going to acquire a defenseman. Someone that will make sitting Liljegren or Lyub or Sandin worth it because they are that much better.

I like Engvall and Mikheyev, a heavier forward at the same price point is just Nick Ritchie

I can see something like

Muzzin- brodie
Rielly- lyubushkin or holl
Chiarot- holl or lyubushkin

We dont necessary need to put 4 best d on top 4. You can get 3 pair who can play the same amount of time. Using more rielly when you need a goal, offensive faceoff, pp and using more a chiarot if you need to keep a lead, defensive faceoff and pk.

I know some will not like suggestion of keeping sandin and liljegren out but NHL is not a developping league, its a do or die league. We saw very good thing of offensivly from both but they are too unpredictable defensive side.

I don't mind them but I don't see their worth come playoff time. Seems were bringing too similar of a roster into the playoffs as we have in years past. Obviously a lot can happen between now and the deadline though.

Lilly will not be in starting lineup during playoffs.

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin ?
Sandin Lybushkin
Holl

I doubt they have Lilly in their lineup for playoffs.
Also I think he will get destroyed under pressure and physicality.
That's not to say in a few years he will get much more comfortable and able to withstand the physical play and pressure, but right now he's not going to be a positive enough factor for us in playoffs

We need to win now not in a few years, what if that window closes sooner than expected? The goal is to win a cup no matter the cost.

so if we need to give away prospects and picks no matter how good they are or how high the pick is, you need to just do it.

What's the reasoning that he will "get destroyed"? He's not a small guy nor is he new to playoff hockey. He's going to be 23 years old in a month. When will ever be ready for it?

I am so confused with the mental gymnastics people go to to justify their reasonings. At least comment on his on ice abilities, not some made up logic that he can't play in the NHL playoffs just because.

The Leafs have given up so many picks and prospects over the years to get better. I don't think they are afraid to do it.

Matthews and Marner are 24. Our best years might still be ahead of us so those years could really use some hits from the guys developing today.
