Friedman in 32 thoughts has reported Joe Duszak has requested a trade;

16. Quote of the week: One executive, asked if he thought Nick Robertson is getting a showcase in Toronto, replied, “There’s 20 scouts watching the Marlies every night.” He’s not someone I know real well, but AHL Toronto defenceman Joseph Duszak is looking for a new start. He’s got 37 points (32 of them assists) in 37 games. I didn’t see it, but he also played one game at forward.

I don't blame him. He is not making the NHL here. I doubt he will make the NHL elsewhere, but there is probably a better chance than here.

I imagine Kivihalme and Menell want opportunities elsewhere as well, even though they have rotated between sucking and being injured the entire year.

Before anyone gets their hopes up, we won't get much for him. He has more value as a RD for the Marlies than he does on the trade market. He is also a big hole to fill on RD this year and next, but maybe we can find someone with more NHL upside/value to fill his spot.

He's been one the players on my list to be traded for awhile. Dubas likes doing 1 for 1 depth trades.

Maybe Minny would send over McBain for Duszak if they can't get a pick high enough.

Didn't they literally just give us Menell for practically nothing though?

There is not much separating the two, even though Menell has been a disaster this year.

Giordano is my choice for defenseman. Veteran, can play RD, Physical, has chemistry with Brodie in Calgary. Give them Dermott + 3rd/4th.

Rielly - Giordano
Muzzin - Brodie
Sandin - Lyubushkin

Because Menell wanted to be traded. Pretty much the same situation as Duszak.

Either way, just an idea.

I don't mind him playing right now, but we can't have him in our top 6 in the playoffs. Not this year.

Sandin's physicality is a bit underrated, but the fact that our only physical dmen are Muzzin and Lyubushkin might be a playoff problem. I'd love to add one more physical dman, especially if Muzz is not a sure thing.

Let Liljegren play the rest of the regular season and see how he does. Maybe put him in the 3rd pair with Bush or something at least in playoffs if he looks decent. If we want consistent defense, I think Liljegren is better than Sandin is right now.

I wouldn't mind adding a tougher Dman that can play in the top 4 if the price isn't too high, but how many of those are there in the market that won't cost alot?

Hagel plays a similar game to Bunting. Goes to the dirty areas, has soft hands in tight and despite being undersized has an edge to his game. I don't think he is a true talent 30 goal scorer, but at his price even 20 goals is a steal.

I don't get it. If Hagel is so good then why would the Hawks want to trade him when he's young and just signed a cheap 3 year contract with them?

Minnesota does not have a lot of RD in their pool, but they also have Calen Addison who is practically the same kind of guy as Duszak but better.

Also the main reason why Menell probably wanted out.

I could see either being of interest to a team like San Jose, Seattle, or Arizona.

Starting to think Chiarot won't fetch a first, especially with all the guys on the market who are better than him (Chychrun, Gio, Lindholm/Manson, Klingberg) . If we can get him for say a 2nd+Demott, I think we have to do it.

say it with me... chiarot does NOT move the needle and will NOT be worth the resources we pay to acquire no matter how minimal they may be.

Liljegren appears to be more suited for a top 4 role presently than Sandin, but I'd rather have Sandin on the bottom pair because of his ability to make an outlet pass and play on the 2nd pp unit. Essentially his best skills help the team more in a limited role.

It sounds like Chicago may be on the verge of a full-scale rebuild.

Teams that rebuild tend to trade players while they have high value.

He's faux-available. Hawks didn't formally list him as untouchable so teams started calling about him. Hawks didn't advertise him.

He's available the same way Debrincat is available. You have to overpay to make up for the fact they're a rebuilding team and have no incentive to trade their young guys in demand. Seems smart to me. Why would you not explore premium offers. Everyone has a price.

Not a fan of Chiarot but this argument has me re-thinking that. Thanks for this info.

I don't think people have been against the idea of acquiring Chiarot. Most have been against the idea of acquiring Chiatot at the reported price it will cost.

To be fair the guy he's replying to told him not even at minimal cost. I think this thusk guy just handed him a huge L.
