I kind of figured McDavid would walk to Toronto after his stint with the Oilers because they aren't very competitive. If he moved to the Rangers and was able to get comfortable in New York for a few years before he reaches FA, I could definitely see him re-signing early and missing out on coming here.

Exactly. It's a nice pipe dream, but Rangers are perfectly situated to get him and keep him around. The best thing for us would be to have him stick around in Oil land for a few more seasons, I think.

I mentioned in the around the league thread that I believe McDavid or Draisaitl ask for a trade after this season.

I’d explore something hard around Marner + for Draisaitl.

Lafreniere and Kakko look awful. They’re still young so they can definitely develop some more but I don’t think they’re very that enticing to be honest.

You are correct in that it comes down to where he would want to go. NY is talking about 60% plus taxes. People are leaving NY like the plague.

Who knows what his wife would want. Who knows what he would want. He may.

JT had a massive playbook when he spoke to teams.

A hypothetical Mcdavid trade in my opinion would look like:

Marner (Still young and could potentially resign in Edmonton)
Sandin ( young future top 4 dman)
One of Robertson/Amirov
2st round picks 2021,2022

Definitely think that should be enough if he hopefully wants to come home in the off-season when his NMC kicks in.

In my opinion I think Matthews and Mcdavid are good buddies and want to play together.

We have different definitions of "elite" guys.

Kakko has 14 points in 36 games, in his third NHL season.
Laf has 11 points in 38 games in his second.

Our "rookie" Bunting has almost as many points as those two combined. Does that make him a generational talent?

Rangers would also have to move cap, but everyone with cap, also has a NMC, and who would accept a trade to the Oilers?

If the Leafs did trade some package for Mcdavid for Marner. The leafs can either move Tavares to the wing or give him 3rd line duties. It would give the Leafs a lot of flexibility with Tavares. I would probably go Matthews Nylander together and Tavares Mcdavid together.

I think something around the basis of Marner + for Draisaitl is possible. And saves the leafs 2.5m in cap space plus Edmonton gets the player for an extra year.

you’d have to think Edmonton would want a C back if they’re trading one of the two though. But then again it’s the Oilers brass we’re talking about here.
