It was a bad trade but paying him huge $ on a retirement contact would be equally dumb. Since the leafs are up against the cap they'd have to trade somebody else away.

The Leafs should save their money and cap space for re-signing Campbell.
It would be but the question the thread asks is 'if the price tag isn't too high'?

How can you take that stupid blog seriously when they state "You don't need to be a psychic to know that Kadri was upset over being dealt, likely being the scapegoat for goaltender Frederik Andersen's shortcomings in the postseason."?

He was dealt because of his history of getting suspended during the playoffs, something that the idiot who wrote that piece completely ignored.

Here is a young Naz with his father both sporting favourite childhood team.

The Leafs have bigger priorities then signing another centre, I'm a Kadri fan and I like the way he play's the game, but I have very little tolerance for both his over-reactions on the ice and the NHL over-reactions when it comes to dealing with certain players and the free passes handed out to others, who may or may not wear black and gold!

Kadri really has no place on the Leafs anymore.

The team just won't be able to afford him if he signs as free agent no matter how much interest both side are potentially. He is having a great year which is good for him, it's time for him to cash out. Focus on Cambell, and other defenseman signing than forwards.

I don't recall, how was it 'envisioned'?

Burkie thought that the team was really ready to take the step especially being 6-0 at the time in the pre-season. Nazem was looking like he was going to be a star, the goaltending looked pretty solid with Toskala, the Monster coming in who was the "best goalie outside the NHL" and a top 4 that wasn't killer but was pretty solid especially with the UFA signing of Beauchemin and Exelby, Kaberle's emergence. and Schenn settling in as a hard rock #3. Stajan, Grabovski and Boz weren't going to make anyone forget Gretzky, but most people agreed that was a pretty good 1 2 3 down the middle and some pretty good toughness along the wings.

I don't think anyone in NHL management saw the Leafs missing the playoffs let alone finishing near the bottom and turning those pick into solid gold.

Who knew that it was all going to implode and turn into a steaming pile of stink

Got it. My post was in reference to trading Kessel away.

I'm thinking he missed the part where JT signing sort of paved the way for his trade

Starting to think Carson Soucy out of Seattle would be an unreal fair value pickup at the TDL.

SEA won't be competing any time soon. Off hand, at the beginning of December Soucy was top 3 on SEA in terms of limiting unblocked shots against. Current CF% of 48.5 while his oiSV% being the lowest of his career on an abysmal Kraken team with heavy D zone starts.

Biggest factor - he can play the right side. In MIN his underlying numbers were fairly even when he played LD vs. RD. IMO by the end of the season he'll be a household name when it comes to shutdown defenseman. Perfect Holl upgrade and potential Muzzin replacement if Soucy is re-signed. Only 27.

Soucy would be a good fit and has another year on his deal after this year.

If you're wanting him to be the shutdown pair, then I think he's an upgrade on what Holl has provided this year.

Depends what the price would be for Soucy. Would be an upgrade on Holl but I also wouldn’t overpay to acquire him.

You don't trade for Soucy and put him on the bottom pair, he's the new shutdown defender and the kids can continue dominating 3rd pair usage

I wouldn't trade Kerfoot either, he works as a top 6LW so if it ain't broke don't fix it

Soucy had never played more than 15mpg before moving to an expansion team....where he plays 17mpg, still on their bottom pair.

Mediocre numbers as a bottom pair dman. No Bueno. At least our guys put up dominant numbers when they're on the bottom pair, and we're still scared to put them in the top 4.

And yes, even Holl has put up a 60xgf% since getting bumped down to the bottom pair.

Sorry but Soucy is really not an upgrade over holl.

The guy im looking for is Connor Murphy. A big 6'4 physical shutdown right shot dman who can play against top pairing matchup. He's the perfect target for TML.

Interesting target. At his best he's been really good up against top competitive. Was maybe their best dman for a year or two. But I'm pretty sure he's had a very very rough year this year so the pro scouts would really have to be on their game on this one.
