Why is it people forget why he was moved? And no, it wasn’t just the playoff suspensions, but a long track record of transgressions, being called out by management for a lack of maturity and discipline, internal suspensions…. No team with Shanahan or Dubas running it would ever have Kadri on it.

I believe the Leafs we're looking to get him signed for less than his qualifying offer so wasn't surprising the player opted to leave

Can't blame Dubas for trying, Rodrigues wasn't very good at that point, and even as a success story, we're just talking about a good 2.5 month run...

He ended up signing back with Pittsburg for far less than his qualifying offer. I don’t think he was very interested in signing here even being a Toronto native.

Just curious. You think giving up essentially 3 1st round picks is a decent trade? When has a non superstar ever gotten 3 1st rounders in a trade. Especially one that has had knee surgeries. If Arizona wants one of Sandin or Liljgren it lessons the value of the other pieces, in my opinion

Excuse me, knee surgeries? Ok, this I did not know, or if I did, I forgot. I'll assume ACL? Yes, that does change things.

He's a 6'3 power forward type with hands and skating ability

If we trade him and he actually develops into that people are going to want heads to roll

That's something this fan base has wanted for at least a decade

This is something we agree upon. I had included Amirov in the trade proposal, not because I wanted to lose him, but because we have Robertson and Knies in the pipeline, and Knies is looking very promising.

im sorry but screw prospects at this point (respectfully, not saying we should trade all our prospects, but we need to also value actually doing whatever it takes to finally win a cup). It’s virtually impossible to build for the future and build for the now. (The only team to do that in the cap era is Tampa Bay. They hit on so many 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th rounders so they have been able to graduate a lot of guys to fill in lost roster players and stay strong) At some point you have to choose one or the other. If Dubas really believes in this core like he says he does, then he knows the window is 2-3 years. Maybe even less. There’s no time to wait on these prospects. If there is a deal that gives you a chance to add a player that will be a huge impact and help you at a deep cup run or even a finals win you trade that prospect for the player(s) (Not saying it has to be Chychrun).

No prospect, Amirov, Robertson, Sandin, Liljegren, our two Finnish guys, Knies should really be off the table at this point. Look at the teams that have consistently had deep runs. They have ultimately sacrificed future for now, it sucks but it is what it is. The leafs have had no success for so many years and we keep waiting for those prospects to lead us there. Hasn’t happened yet, something has to change.

that being said we have a good roster so we don’t HAVE to make a drastic move. But if a can’t miss player becomes available and we have the pieces Dubas absolutely should be making that move.
I’m sorry, how is this teams “window” 2-3 years when the core foundational pieces are 24-28?

Knies and Niemela look really promising but prospects are harder to pick than a broken nose

Peak production ages tend to be around 23-26 years of age. Tavares will be 34, with a probable decline and Rielly at 31 will possibly lose a step. Can't comment on the goalie situation as, well... We're in a good spot now, as we were last year and the next few for sure, but after that we better be able to provide more balance to the roster as I expect that our best will not be at their best anymore. Not to say shabby, just not at their peak.

Why are people trying to replace half our roster with players from the worst teams in the league?

Well in another thread, you offered "just for fun",

To ARZ: Kerfoot, Ritchie, Dermott, Holl, Amirov, 1st rounder
To TOR: Chychrun, Crouse, Lyubushkin

The answer to your question, because it's fun.

24-29. I think stars also have longer peaks.

He'll get 8m/y from Montreal. Sold as the savior and disappoint from the get-go, then fade out into a 2nd-3rd liner for the duration of a 7 year deal. He's an in contract year and is trying extra hard for the payday

I should have been more clear, Kyle’s time with the team. If we don’t get results I don’t think Kyle will be here long term.

but also it’s not impossible to conclude that if we fail to make it past the first round, a piece from the core will be moved. Which is likely Marner or Nylander unfortunately

I will admit I thought Kadri was falling off a cliff the year we traded him. I thought it was a decent trade on our part. He's really pushed his game to a level I never thought we would see again, so good for him. Problem is he is 31 and will want a lengthy contract. Whoever signs him won't like the back half of it.

We won't get him back though.

Chychrun would definitely be a nice addition but it would also cost us a lot. We also wouldn’t be able to fit him in without moving some major salary. The chemistry on this team is really good so I don’t think it’s a good idea to move someone like Kerfoot or Muzzin at least until the off-season.

A smaller move that could be beneficial for both teams and players could be something like this:

To Toronto: Rasmus Ristolainen
To Philadelphia: Justin Holl, Ilya Mikheyev

Philadelphia would need to retain some of Ristolainen’s salary to even things out but it gives Philadelphia a RHD that’s still under contract next year and a player in Mikheyev who could be given a better opportunity there.

Rielly - Brodie
Sandin - Ristolainen
Muzzin - Liljegren
Dermott

He wasn’t very good in Colorado either up until this season. Heck, he got himself suspended in the playoffs AGAIN just last spring.

Dubas shipped him out even though it sounds like he was practically begging to stay. I can't imagine Kadi wants to re-sign with him much less takes a discount to do so.
