If Vancouver is looking for player for player swaps to shake things up. Maybe the Leafs should be calling.

JT Miller
Luke Schenn

for

Ilya Micheyev
Justin Holl
Pierre Engvall
3rd round pick '23

replace Holl with Dermott, and pass on Schenn.

Biggest realistic improvement to the team during this season:

Subtract Holl, add 2nd pairing right side defender preferably with some physical tendencies to take some load off Muzzin

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin <new 2nd pairing defender>
Sandin/Dermott/Liljegren rotating

Just a matter of time until the Canucks presumably sell on their roster players for futures. I had a look at their contracts and here are some general comments:
  • Leafs are seeking UFAs with expiring deals and the only UFA forwards are Tyler Motte and Chiasson
  • I totally forgot they had Michael Ferland. He's on LTIR and 3.5M until 2023-2024
  • Brandon Sutter is actually a F UFA expiring this year. He's on LTIR as well. His cap is fairly low
  • JT Miller is 5.25M for 2 more years
  • They have Pearson with a NTC at 3.25M until 23-24

What is up with this board's borderline obsession with Miller?

This board, and I'd think most fans are obsessed with doing a deal to improve the team. He's likely the biggest name that might be available. This board always obsesses with the biggest name available.

Not just the biggest name, but also
-fits our biggest positional need
-has positional versatility
-fits a stylistic need
-has an extra year
-can be retained to the point of being as affordable as Engvall.

Realistically he's a pipe dream unless Benning changes his tune and trades for futures, or loses his mind. But yeah, Miller (assuming dressing room stuff is overblown/ not really on him) is a pretty perfect add.

And continues Miller's streak of playing for Blue sweater teams. :sarcasm:

imo Miller is costing Robertson +

1st+ Robertson/Amirov + Abruzzese/Kral etc for Miller @ 50%
Engvall + 2023 3rd for 25% retention from Arizona

=
two way top line LW/C for this year and next at 1.3. Still have Knies and one of Robby/Amirov at LW. Still have 3 top 60 picks this year and next.

do you think alex nylander could be had as a reclamation project. (if he stays in the hawks system) seems to have stalled currently in the ahl again

i think being around will might give him a extra gear

however id expect to pay a small price if it were to occur

Most people can recognize his name

I think he's being overrated and would prefer a different type of player but the board has spoken

Not sure if he's available, but if we want to go big, I still love Forsberg the most.

Miller will cost a lot.
I just don't think Leafs can afford it unless it is Kerfoot and Holl plus picks/prospects.

I've been interested dating back to when he would have been part of a JVR return.

I like Miller and thought about a swap for reilly in off season but it is funny for a team that is so top heavy with cap at forwards we still look to add more cap to the forwards :)
top RHD would probably be a better use of any big move....or a vet goalie

Do you think our top 6 is fine? We clearly need another top 6 winger on the team. Thats basically whats missing.

Changing my mind on the dream add (really settling because I don't think that Miller will go for futures)

Holl+ 1st +
Donskoi @50% +Soucy @ 50%

Engvall + pick to Arizona for Donskoi 25%, Soucy 15%

= Donskoi and Soucy @ .975 each for this season and next.

Move Nylander to LW

Nylander-Matthews-Donskoi
Kerfoot-Tavares-Marner
Ritchie-Kampf-Kase
Mikheyev-Spezza-Simmonds

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljgren
Sandin-Soucy

Personally I have no interest in making another big futures trades to upgrade the lineup when the team still hasn't won a single playoff series.

Much rather keep the 1st, Amirov etc and actually have some high end future depth. If they go deep this year you can circle back for JT Miller next year

He's a solid player too.. but the Predators are in the thick of a playoff spot chase, so it's doubtful they would move him, unless their fortunes change.

Vancouver seems down and out, and likely to make changes.

Forsberg is a UFA at the end of the year, Miller has next year as well.... both would be very costly, but at least with Miller, you get two years, instead of one.

For me, when I'm looking at teams that might move players, I'm either looking at teams that seem out of it already, or maybe players that need a change of scenery.

Arizona, Habs, Vancouver seem to be mostly out of it right now, so those are places to look to shake something loose. Teams in the playoff hunt, seem less likely to make moves.
