Fair enough, but I don't see Brown as an improvement over either Kerfoot or Bunting. It would really have to be a player a tier above these guys. Like a JT Miller/Forsberg/Rakell type player.
But even then......why risk it?

An obsession with always trying to make the team better on paper?
Hahaha....oh yeah, I do get that!!

I think we are in the serious diminishing returns stage here no matter where we look, and there is a possibility of upsetting the apple cart.

It's confusing to people that the Leafs have very little to fix.....it's not natural.

No, I don't.

Brown is having a pretty good year, and I love the player. He gets quite a bit more playing time, than he would here though. (Our 3rd liners get ~11:30 per game 5v5... Brown is getting over 16 minutes)

He was the 4th line RW, behind Marner, Nylander and Kapanen at the time, hence why he was moved. For his cap hit, it didn't make sense.

He is at 1.9 Pts/60.

Kase is at 1.8 Pts/60
Simmonds is at 2.2 Pts/60

Sure, Brown might be better at hockey than these guys, but given the cost of a 1st you are proposing, to marginally improve our team... and it would only be marginally, it's just not worth it. Not to mention a $3.6 mil cap hit, while Kase is at $1.25 and Simmonds $900k.

That's fair. Good points and I kinda agree. But Babcock was also unwilling to make any sort of lineup adjustments and had the team playing bad to average defensive hockey when Brown was here.

Brown or Nylander moving to the LW, bumping down Kerfoot or Bunting, I think you're getting a very good playmaking 2-way winger that fits the cap structure very well, who's been producing very well last couple seasons on a bad bad bad Sens team and a pretty significant upgrade on Ritchie. I wouldn't get him to play 3rd or 4th line minutes.

I don't expect it to happen anyway, was just randomly thinking about it.

I think our top priority should be getting an upgrade on Dermott/Holl. Severson fits the bill and has another year remaining on his contract after this season. I wonder if Dermott, Robertson and a 2nd would get it done.

Gurianov is another name that would be a great addition for some secondary scoring.

I like severson a lot
Not sure stats would move on from gurionov but Faksa would be a nice add....with klingberg and holtby id give up a lot

1st , Robertson, holl or dermott, ++

The Leafs have allowed 7 goals in their last 7 games, 12 in their last 10....and all people want to to is collect expensive names on D that in all likelihood will make no difference, or upset the pairings and screw it all up.

Why the constant dissatisfaction with the NAMES of the current Leafs that are producing these results?

What is the purpose of blowing up the Leafs again?

Wonder why he wants out of Boston.
He’s bad. Wants a change of scenery and has been regressing for two years. Looks like a replacement level player on RW so he’s a victim to the numbers game on LW.

With his QO I wouldn’t offer anything of value. Not to mention his history against the Leafs.

I don't think you're getting much better than Brown for a late first round pick and a cap dump like Ritchie.

Brown was traded along with a cap dump which was an excellent and needed move at the time. Now that the Leafs know more or less what their cap structure is like for the next couple seasons, Brown can easily fit back for a cup run or two.

Brown is a whole lot better and useful than Foligno, especially since he's signed going into next season.

Unfortunately, the Leafs don't have the luxury of going after expensive forwards. There aren't many efficient forwards like Brown likely available for his cap hit.

It would define worth considering.

What would give me pause is I think Ritchie has looked good on the 4th line and keeping that 1st would be nice. Then again getting Brown on the Matthews line would be nice

If Jake DeBrusk wasn't making $3.675 million it would be interesting to go after him with the possibility of putting together a DeBrusk-Kerfoot-Bunting pest line.

Is a team is ever as good as the hottest streak in the regular season? I wouldn't mind seeing JT Miler or Josh Anderson on the wing.

If the Sens offer the Leafs Connor Brown for a 1st round pick and willing to take Nick Ritchie off our hands... do you do it?

I guess the big question would be whether or not Brown would get a plum offensive role with the Leafs as he does with the Senators. If not, you're just stuck with the same third line Brown as during his last year here, and he wasn't that effective.

Also, Andreas Johnsson seems to be having a similar revival in New Jersey. Similar to Brown, thriving on a lower tier club.

Good for him. I bet getting COVID was particularly hard on him with his asthma issues. That being said he's shooting 27% on the year

6 points in his last two games though

Yeah, the Covid and asthma combo situation was scary to hear about last year so it's nice to see him rebounding in a big way even if it's not quite at a sustainable rate.

Trading for DeBrusk wouldn't make much sense as he's already more expensive than any of the wingers he'd replace in the lineup. Don't mind him as a player otherwise.
