He's one I'm a bit surprised wasn't qualified. Most of them were worried about arbitration awards, but Ducks have like 40 million in capspace and he doesn't have the numbers to get anything major via arbitration.

Makes you wonder about work ethic or personal issues or something. Or maybe they just decided his game isn't ever going to get there.
Hearsay here, but I think I remember reading something even after his 100+ point WHL season about him having zero hockey sense and just being very fast and physically more developed than like 90% of the WHL, he was able to fly by and bully most players he went up against, not so much make great plays.

If he is all physical tools and not great with the mental stuff, it would make sense that he has struggled in the NHL

Could totally be wrong here though

Sooo, was thinking about this a bit more. Steel is a guy teams would tender an offer to like 9 out of 10 times. RFA, doesn't cost anything. If he gets pushed down the roster, you can waive to try go to the AHL. If nothing else there has to be atleast a bit of trade value given the name, draft position, etc.

Really doesn't make much sense. As I was looking at the other non-tendered guys, looks like 5 or 6 of them that are kind of in the same boat(doesn't make much sense they weren't tendered an offer) played for Canada in 2018 WJC...

Probably best to stay away from signing those players...

Steel is someone I'd sign for for an $800k x 1 and hope he works with Boldy in camp. If he doesn't he's waiver fodder.

Rossi + Zucker would be $6.4m. Even sending Jost out it's right at/over the cap with a 12 FWD, 7D, 2G roster.

I've got -$610k with Jost on the roster and no Kulikov. Swapping out Jost with a $750k 13th forward gets us there with room to spare.

GMBG dumped him to PIT after he got to MN. So no ties to his time there, and the fact Zucker hasn't been good in PIT.
No matter. It's a 1 year deal.

Still no pressbox d-man. This is a team with Spurgeon and Brodin on it. So there really needs to be a pressbox d-man.

oh i know, I was just joking since Guerin has a thing for Pitt guys. I don't see how it would work unless Pitt retained and I don't see them doing that unless we were willing to get a lower pick or something.

A lot of these contracts being handed out today feel really bloated, either by AAV or term, sometimes both. Moreso than usual. Or maybe it just seems that way because the cap is expected to go up again soon?

Goalies are really getting a lot of strange term deals.

Completely agree. With a deep UFA group, you’d think the abundance of supply would push prices down. Seems like GMs are expecting a much higher cap going forward.
