I'm a tad surprised Kulikov is still around.

They do have all summer but I would not be surprised if they keep Rossi in the AHL for the first half of the season so he can't hit his bonuses, under the guise of "he needs more time"

Oh...so it's about the money.

I don’t necessarily know if it’s about money. Talbot was paid more (by cap hit). I think it’s that the writing is on the wall that he’s out after this following season with Wallstedt assuming a backup role.

Is Kuli going to be our 12th forward?

Can he even get an extension right now?

If that is true, and he and his agent are kicking up dust simply over money when he can't even do anything about it right now.....bad form.

If a team will trade anything more than a 3rd for Talbot, he should 100% be moved. Don’t need this distraction and we could free up some cap with a cheaper backup. Wallstedt will be ready by 23-24.

Yeah, after this, I don't think an extension is in the cards. BG decided long ago to get rid of Fiala, and we all know the rumors of how past negotiations may have played a role in that. So imagine how he's gonna react to this latest mess. He's gonna hold a grudge. Probably spamming Talbot's agent with old chain letters as we speak.

Besides, I think Billy is hoping to have Fleury mentor Wally next year.

Pretty sure they'd rather have the production required to get the bonuses, than save 850k. None of the A bonuses he's eligable for are exactly easy to get. Some of them can also be hit on rate basis as well, that burying him wouldn't solve.

Can we even afford both of their bonuses as it stands?

First half of that sounds very Fenton-esque
I heard from someone who’s no longer with the organization that Guerin is an absolute d-bag as well. So, we still have a d-bag for a GM, but this one just trades away high-end talent. He doesn’t bring it in.

I can see that. Seems like a grade A control freak. Just hides it from the public better.

Kulikov will be traded and it will be fine.

Probably. If we trade Kulikov and replace him with a league minimum guy ($750k), we're still right at the cap, very slightly over or under depending on rounding. And that's assuming the last forward we're bringing in is also a league minimum guy and not something like $900k.

So trading Kulikov probably isn't good enough. Need to either not overpay by 500k-1M on these extensions he's handed out, trade Dumba, trade Kulikov+, or try to prevent Rossi from hitting some of the bonuses

We also get cap space for when Spurgeon/Dumba will be out injured. Isn’t Merrill going to miss the start of the year?

Or just not care if ~$200-$500k in bonuses get rolled into the next year.

If only he would have paid Middleton $2M instead. Was his qualifying offer even over $1M?

I don't know what his QO was but he had 80 career games across like 4 seasons and as far as I know, no arbitration rights. So yeah, 2M would have been better, would have actually made a difference, and is still plenty fair for the player. But that's why I say it's an example of Guerin doing the agents job for him.
