Thats fine and I agree, but the arguement was Marchment would be better needed here which is not accuate. He's a worse player and not NHL quality.

I think we can agree neither player is NHL quality, until I see evidence to the contrary I'm going to stick with the depth dude for depth dude theory except one depth dude can skate

Martha deal is good though adjusted for health is probably closer to being fair lol.

He hasn't played a full 82 game season yet

Another problem is they aren't likely to be good enough to make use of that 4 year contract until or if they trade him

Yep.

Best case scenario is they'll get like 1 seasons worth of use of him on that deal if their rebuild goes smoothly. He could be a good trade chip though at least

To get great value they need trade him while he still has term left on that deal though, teams pay for quality at the deadline but they pay through the nose for quality with term (pre COVID anyway)

If I was them I'd trade him in 2 years because I wouldn't want to be faced with a JVR, Bozak type of scenario at the end of that deal, I still ******* hate that decision by the way :help:

Meh Malgin is an NHL depth player.

Meh Malgin is an NHL depth player.

The way I see it is players like Malgin are useless if they aren't in your top 9 or on 1 of the PP units. Waste of their skill to be playing like 5 mins a game on the 4th line where as players like Marchment bring an element to the game where it doesn't matter if they play 5 mins a game.

Calling him an NHL level player is generous if were being honest

He looks like a Petan level NHL/AHL tweener to me
Malgin is better then Petan.

Marchment is not an NHL player so he can't really bring that element effectively.

Being better than somebody who isn't an NHL caliber player isn't saying much nor does it make Malgin and NHL caliber player

Malgin is an NHL player. I didn't say it says anything, I'm just going against the belief Marchnent would be more useful.

When it comes to the 12th and 13th forward, there are literally hundreds of players in the NHL, AHL, KHL and other Euro leagues that can fill those two spots. Malgin is one of them while Marchment is not.
Put it this way, I think Malgin can make the roster for the Sens but doubt Marchment can.

How is the slowest player in the league going to do anything with his physicality? Is he hitting guys who aren't moving in those 5 minutes?

Malgin for a 5'9 player isn't afraid to throw the body. He has decent hit totals.

He plays a lot like Johnsson, but has better skating ability with a weaker shot. If he could put some more zip on his shot and bulk up a little bit, he can easily be a middle 6 winger in the NHL.

I think this is the thing though.

Some folks are drawn to tbe idea of a Marchment like player. The problem is in reality he doesn't match up well to that the idea/archetype because his skating speed and puck skills are far below even a guy like Clifford. Hes not going to be a wrecking ball energy line guy beacuse he can't keep up with the play

This gets said about a lot of guys who are supposedly slow and they do just fine. All I'm saying is I just find it a waste to have Malgin sitting in a press box or playing 5 mins a game because he's a pretty damn good player.

He wishes he was Johnsson and if I was you I'd wish he was an NHL caliber player first

Based on what? Florida gave up on him and we gave him a great opportunity with quality linemates and he did absolutely nothing

Malgin is an NHL player. The stats and eye test all support that. He can give you depth minutes and be a fill in.
Disagree, I thought he was fine but you can't conclude much from a small sample size.

My thing with Malgin is...Florida was directly competing against us for the 8th spot, and then just gave him to us for free. So how much of an asset could he be?
That's an odd way to look at things. I don't think much of Malgin but teams trade away the wrong player all of the time.
