My hope is that if Dubas does make a trade(s) this year, he copies his timing with the Kapanen trade: do it early! Set the market, don't follow it. Doing so, however, would demand they are Cap neutral. I think the returning players would benefit from having more time acclimating to their new team, and give the team a chance to evolve properly with the new additions.

Re Bennett: if they are interested, do the trade quickly and get his head into a space where he feels like he's an important part of the team. His work in the playoffs makes me curious, his regular season results, less so. Ferris, ugggg. 50% retention a must. One of Engvall/Vesey/Barabanov.

Re Andersen: can't be moved until we get Campbell back and we see how Jack can respond, unless we're dealing with a Canadian team. IMO, the two week isolation kills a trade with a US team, I don't want to go forward with an injured/unknown Campbell, and Hutchinson.

I've been in the boat of trading Andersen since last off-season when he had value.

With that said, the boat left on that and I think the Leafs should just keep him for the season, even if he keeps struggling.

I think the Leafs plan on moving on from him, especially since it's very doubtful he'll take a paycut or extend the same contract on a short-term deal.

The Leafs should be able to get similar goaltending quality at a cheaper rate and less commitment.

Driedger is UFA. Late bloomer and could make for a good tandem with Campbell.

Anh has two targets i think leafs should go after....Gibson and rakell

I think a deal for both is unlikely and thats like 10 mill in cap

Stolarz is another late bloomer I would look to add for depth if Anaheim isn't going to use him. 6'6", was an AHL all star last year and has decent numbers in limited NHL action when factoring in shots faced and shot quality.

If we aren't using Agostino I would see if maybe they'd be interested in that swap this year and give him a game or two while Campbell is out.

He's intriguing for sure. I think we could out bit quite a few teams for him because as long as he comes in under five million we're saving money, where as other teams are probably hesitant to give a largely unproven goalie 3-4 million. And Florida wants to make Bob work out so they'll keep his starts as low as possible.

Would love to do trade around Alex Kerfoot and Miles Wood.

Hyman - Mathews - Marner
Simmonds - Tavares - Nylander
Wood - Thornton - Mikheyev
Vesey - Engvall - Spezza

I like Bennett idea, he needs a change

a good defence in front of a Campbell I’m think is an upgrade to Freddy, not sure Freddy resigned so I’m good to move on
Get a 1st or whatever for him
Tired of getting nothing for our ufas

Dougie Hamilton?
Is he actually good, is he what we need and an option for us? If we move Freddy out
He’s a ufa this year

If we sign Dougie we lose Dermott to expansion and trade Kerfoot and Holl to make it fit. Then use the money for a 3C (Bozak) and G (Reimer)

D would be unreal, G passable, F is iffy.

I really like Miles, too, but not before the expansion draft.

I dont think Kerfoot is getting traded this season unless a 3c is coming back.

I wouldn't mind a new 3C and Kerfoot moving to the wing in the top 6 (caps an issue though obviously)

We need to sort out how we want our 3rd line to play, who's a fit on the wings then look for a center that fits stylistically before we do anything

Add Virtanen to the list of names with Bennett the Leafs could turn to, to add another banging forward to their lineup. Simmonds looks so good out there. It would be great to get another one. He was mentioned on the headlines during the 2nd intermission. They would have to retain and the cost wouldn't be expensive.

He has an extra year, which makes retention less feasible than Bennett.

He has the same value though. He's worth half of what he is getting paid right now, and still doesn't bring all that much, so we would need that 50% retention and they aren't getting much in return beyond a guy like Engvall.

Hot start for Wood. He might not be as available and for the price as his comparables. Buy high or buy low. Might be smarter to buy low than have Wood cool when he hits a new uniform.

I agree that the extra year would make retention less likely, but given his production they may have to bend on that. I feel Calgary would want Engvall in return partially given the extra year not being there. Easier to swallow. Vancouver may not want his contract for 2 years given his production if they retain for two. They'd essentially be swapping Virtanen for Engvall at the same price point.

Wouldn't want to get stuck with the next Scott Darling either. Maybe 2-3 years at around 2.5M? Quite a step up from the what? 850k?

It's Vancouver and only so many games in but it now looks as though most of this team is rolling. The 4th line is making up for the fact that our 3rd line has been MIA all season.

Maybe upon return of Thornton we could look at a few looks like Kerfoot-Thornton-Soup and tweak from there.

If Kerfoot can't become a contributing member to the team, we need to move on. $3.5M is a lot for us to put on the 3rd line and not get ROI on it.

Forget Bennett or Virtanen, Nick Paul is who we should trade for. 6'4 230, 1.35 AAV this year and next, physical, can skate, fight, kill penalties etc. Plus he's already in Ontario, so he shouldn't need to quarantine at all if we time the trade right.

I'd gladly give up a 2nd+ for him.

Would love to try and grab Bennett. Second option Virtanen but I think we need to make a play for one of the two because Simmonds is out for long time

I'd be very happy with Paul, underrated player.

Any reason they'd move him?
