I've been in the boat of trading Andersen since last off-season when he had value.

With that said, the boat left on that and I think the Leafs should just keep him for the season, even if he keeps struggling.

I think the Leafs plan on moving on from him, especially since it's very doubtful he'll take a paycut or extend the same contract on a short-term deal.

The Leafs should be able to get similar goaltending quality at a cheaper rate and less commitment.

If you are planning on getting Miller, Hall or any similar offensive option, it's to add on to the big 4 you already have. If you are trading any of those for that addition, whats the point? You are just making a lateral move at best. This team as strange as it sounds might need another offensive option.

It’s pretty bad when posters keep making excuses for Fred being a slow starter.he is either a number one or not.

In my opinion he is not what we need to be successful. Last night he fought the puck all night. If Myers scores instead of hitting the post we might have lost the game. I have absolutely no confidence in him at all.

Still comes down to price. He is not worth any kind of premium. In fact, he should come at a sizeable discount given he doesn't provide much more than a 4th liner but gets paid like an average 3rd liner.

I think there is enough interest in Bennett that the Flames will not give him away.

Flames would have to retain 50% and Leafs might have to add a 3rd/4th to an Engvall or Flames might have to add a 3rd/4th for Dermott or Kerfoot.

P.S. I recall many on this board saying they would take a 2nd for Kerfoot around draft time which kind of puzzled me because I thought he was worth more.

Most teams will take a punt on a cheap reclamation project with draft pedigree, there's very little downside either way

That doesn't mean his career to this point hasn't sucked however

Agreed but to think Flames will move him for one of our 4th liners (Barabanov, Engvall, Anderson, etc.) is not being realistic IMO.

Thats all he's worth imo

Bennett is making 2.5M and he scores like a 4th liner, he's overpaid for what he is so giving up decent assets to acquire him makes very little sense for us imo

Your better off throwing that decent asset at a known quantity that can play in our top 9 at the TDL imo

Flames would have to retain at least 50% or it would not work. We have enough of these 4th lines we could still make a deal at the TDL but we need to shoot higher than a top 9 forward at the TDL IMO.

I don't mind trading for Bennett if he's cheap, but I want a top 6 forward to play with Tavares or Matthews, everything not that is a sideshow imo

Any chance we could get Palmieri at the deadline retained? Would probably cost a lot but that would absolutely stack our top 6.

Would suck to lose assets like a 1st/Liljegren but in future years we would have Robertson and Amirov which will out the top 6 nicely.

NHL Insider Reports Maple Leafs Have Interest in Sam Bennett - The Hockey Writers

Thursday night, after Bennett was playing well and got some time on a top offensive line, he was mysteriously pulled from the lineup and made a healthy scratch. Flames’ head coach Geoff Ward didn’t offer an explanation as to why, other than to suggest it was just something he had decided to do.

Realizing this was going to stir the pot, during the most recent TSN Insider Trading segment, Darren Dreger noted that pulling Bennett from the lineup didn’t mean a trade was pending. What the NHL insider did say was that there was a “good amount of interest at this stage.”

Among those interested, Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston named the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Then he added:

I think even the Leafs have some level of interest in Sam Bennett. I don’t know if they have the right piece to send back that would make that kind of trade palatable, but there are teams out there kicking tires naturally on a 24-year-old player.

Johnston noted Bennett’s inconsistencies and pointed out that those inconsistencies have plagued him throughout his career. Still, the player has had some pretty outstanding playoff performances for the Flames and that could be appealing to many teams, including a team like the Maple Leafs.

Toronto is playing well this season and if they continue to do so, the organization should waltz their way into a playoff spot in the North Division. With little playoff success to speak of over the past many years, having someone known to pick up his game when the postseason rolls around could be attractive.

What Is the Price to Acquire Bennett?

Johnston added that it could be the acquisition price that determines how interested teams will be. Do the Maple Leafs have the pieces needed to get the deal done? Early reports are that the Flames want full value for Bennett if he’s going to be moved, but there is little in the way of reports about what that means.

Rumors hint that defenseman Travis Dermott could be a piece the Leafs are willing to sacrifice. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Saturday Headlines not that long ago that the Maple Leafs might be looking to acquire another forward, one that could step into the team’s top nine. Jonas Siegel of The Athletic noted that Dermott makes sense.

Bennett at 50% for Engvall and a 2nd or 3rd?

He's not worth that much.

If anyone is willing to take on Bennett at full price for anything of value, I'd be shocked. Something around 50% should be the minimum for them to get anything of value, and that value will not significantly exceed Engvall's value.
