If dermott can't transition to play the right side he is almost certainly not a leaf in 2 years time barring a massive injury or Rielly contract issues.

He isn't passing Rielly/Muzzin on the depth chart so he is guaranteed to be a bottom pairing defender and as a result is blocking the develop of Sandin.

Honestly I think the Muzzin extension was likely the start of the end for Dermott in Toronto which is too bad as I think there is a decent chance he could become a 2nd pairing guy.
what about dermotts development? in the time he has been in the NHL he has been pretty good. if Sandin wants that spot let him earn it. toronto shouldnt trade guys because they need a spot for someone until they can prove they can play in the NHL.

Even a 2nd is probably not ridiculous considering what Lias Andersson just received, and I would bet on Logan Brown long before I would Andersson.

We can give them an actual prospect. We could start with a guy like Rasanen or Greenway + 4th and I would go as far as also adding an SDA or Korshkov to that as well. I sincerely doubt they give up on him right now though, since he is waiver ineligible for another year.

Not sure I would give them a 2nd though. If another team is willing to do that, or they would rather just keep him, then I would just pass. I would say SDA/Korshkov + Greenway/Rasanen + 4th is as high as I would go for him.

Of course, I was joking about Marincin and a 4th. I'd be surprised if the Senators were actually shopping a waiver exempt, cost controlled C... it just doesn't make sense... so what if they have more depth at C, than they need... like that's a bad thing? They also seem to believe, he is top 6, or bust... Now, I haven't seen him much, but Dobber had the following to say...

He has shown the ability to be a dominant force in the AHL in the offensive end of the ice and his 200-foot game has grown over the course of the year. Brown has shown that his passing ability and vision have continued to improve and he has been utilizing his large frame more this season.

Now, if a 6'6" C, can continue to use their large frame more, and projects to be that guy, and can be worked into someone who is very strong defensively, even if the offense is only average... and honestly, given the time he's missed, his offense looks pretty good, I'd say he's worth the gamble. His major issue has been injuries, and I don't know enough to say if they are repeated issues, or flukes... or.. is he just injury prone. But, we sure could use a cheap and decent 3C, even if he played with the Marlies for the year, learning more about how to play, we'd want a 3C to play... and maybe graduate to 2C, when Tavares contract is over.

I mean, I'd also just like to see a Brown, Brazeau, Engvall line... just for fun too. If he's actually available, and it takes your package... combo of SDA/Korshkov/Greenway/Rasanen, plus 4th, even 3rd... I'd do it.... But, what do I know?

That's dumb. I don't really known why you can retroactively change a contract. Their salaries are 25k below league minimum, oh no, take the extra 25k off the signing bonuses then, why do we add 25k out of nowhere?

If the League suddenly put a 3 million limit on signing bonuses, and intended on retroactively adjusting contracts, how do you think the contracts would change? They would take everything above the 3 million bonuses and move it to the salary obviously, rather than just removing it. Why not do the same here but reverse? The contracts were obviously designed to pay everything but whatever the minimum was in signing bonuses.

Still think a trade for Weegar with Dermott as it’s base is better for us long term and creates more balance for us on defence....

I just can't wait until the expansion draft is over so maybe we can make some trades and not have to worry about who we leave unprotected and what not.

Yeah, its a bit on the high side, though his defensive game is still pretty strong. He seems like a good leader in the dressingroom so probably a voice they want to keep around for their retool/rebuild.

Though as far as intangible go the Islanders Uncle Leo comes to an end with a couple years still left on his contract today...

Exactly. Minny paid for the intangibles of keeping him around during the rebuild.

Nobody is taking a discount to play on a rebuilding Wild so they invested in a glue guy who makes life difficult for the opposition and will help the youngsters from having liberties taken on them or developing bad habits.

Increasing the cap hits makes no sense, but it is kind of amusing that it happened to Matthews and Marner, who wanted their hits to end with specific numbers (34 and 93).

Well That better stop the silly have to have your number in your contract business.

Dermott has got to go. He needs minutes to be good, but he's not good enough for minutes on this team.

Keep the top 4 and have the bottom pairing be a rotation of Sandin, Lehtonen, and Liljegren until something sticks.

If we can get a decent winger for Dermott, or use Dermott and Kerfoot to get a better 3rd line C we should be in good shape. Jumbo playing every night on the 1st line isn't a recipe for success. Robertson can LW on a top 2 line, but it would still be nice to get 1 more player so we can keep Hyman and Mikheyev together on the 3rd.

Id rather keep dermott over holl. Its Holl who I think needs to go

The challenge becomes... who plays #2RD? Dermott hasn't really shown if he can play RD. Lethtonen isn't ready, though, if he was, that would be pretty good. Liljegren... again, that would be great, but I'm not sure he's ready... and who plays PK? Not that it's off to a great start.

Too much of a hole for now... I think we have to hold onto our guys, until someone actually pushes them out. It's likely going to take an injury, and spots to be stolen.

Muzzin, Bogosian, Rielly, Dermott, Brodie. We are not moving Holl unless Bogosian shows he was much better than he was yesterday though.

... I had really discounted Bogo from being our #2RD... I just don't think he has that in him.... If he can play better, and be a decent #3RD, I think that's a win on it's own. But I think it's up to someone else to steal Holl's job, and make him expendable... I mean, if somehow Bogo does that... great, I just don't see it.

I mean for PK. He should not be anything more than a #6, but if he can't handle large minutes on the PK, he shouldn't be in the lineup at all.

Dermott seems to have more skills than Holl, but Holl is a more impactful player for whatever reason.

I don't think we can draft and develop Dermott for six years and just dump him, but I wonder if he's one of those guys who doesn't have much of a toolbox.
