Beyond the Infinite
Vancouver just moved to the top of my most hated teams list. Couldn't beat Dallas or stop Detroit from getting a point. Outshot 17-2 in the 3rd period and generated zero offense. Only Schneider gets a pass from me. Elite team my ass. Hope they lose in the 1st round.

Agreed. I've disliked them immensely for quite some time now. Their failure to help us out down the stretch this season has fanned the flames. Boring ass team to watch and the Sedins still manage to creep me out. Plus Kesler is a dbag. Won't shed a single tear over losing them in the move to the East next year.

Yikes!!!! Been cheering on the Blue Jackets to make it in for the last bit here and came to see your guys response for the wings not getting two points. Only to see you guys hate on my team haha, I understand though its been frustrating the last two games. The reason being we are missing 2 top 4 D-men and a very good player in Higgins. This has forced us to play very conservatively. Although the stars game was a complete collapse by the defense.

Anyways good luck the rest of the way.

Meh. I think people are just pissy because we played a poor game in LA and now we may need some help getting into the playoffs. I wouldn't read too much into it.

That's par for the course as a Canucks fan, you should know that by now. :sarcasm:

Anyways, I was in here doing the same thing, and would also like to wish the BJ's luck rest of the way. Would be great to see your team make the playoffs this year.

They've been disappointing this year, no question, but I still think of them as a special team. The Sedins are still amazing hockey players to watch, and they still make several inspiring plays a game. I'm not a Kesler fan, but outside of him they've got a lot of players I'd root for.

Was thinking about this last night. To me, an interesting development with the team's play is the tone with which we're "tracking the playoffs."

While they both mean the sme thing, it's a big difference to say "If we win out an Detroit only gets..." versus "We have to win out and hope Detroit only gets..."

In the past, fan would have seen it as nearly un-doable, while now we're discussing it as though it's a real possibility.

TODAY'S ROOTING INTERESTS: SUN APR 21

NJ DEVILS over NY Rangers 3pm NBC (Still looking for that extra lottery pick. WPG holds ROW tiebreaker)

CALGARY over Minnesota 6pm (Minny still catchable, but need to hit the skids a little bit)

COLUMBUS over San Jose 8pm FSN (the reason we're even involved in this thread. Critical game)

LOS ANGELES over Dallas 9pm NHLN (hurts rooting for LAK, but a reg loss by DAL would give CBJ breathing room)

POSSIBLE SCENARIO RECAP:

IF CBJ WIN OUT (6 points): DAL eliminated no matter what they do. DET eliminated if they lose 1 game in regulation rest of way (or two games in OT, basically if they score 6 out of remaining 8 points possible). Minnesota catchable for 7th if they go 1-2-1 in final four games.

IF CBJ suffer one OTL (5 pts): Would need DAL to do same in game vs LAK or SJ, would need DET to do same vs PHX LAK NSH (In addition to losing one game outright)

IF CBJ loses in regulation (4pts): Pray, because it's probably over. But still possible as long as we beat DAL, DAL loses an additional game, and beats the Wings in regulation, and the Wings lose an additional game. No big whoop.

NYR situation: are one point up on WPG (who holds tiebreaker) with one game in hand. East Coast bias holds strong as NYR play NJD twice on consecutive Saturdays on NBC. Root against them.

The horrid start is to blame. If the Jackets would have played .500 hockey in the first half, we'd be talking about clinching a spot today. We can't count on other teams to do our dirty work.

Horrid start, and the nhl officiating / war room cost the Jackets 2 points. It is what it is. Just win out and maybe the Jacket s will be playing in May.

Thanks for update. Too bad we don't have one more week to the regular season to lock up a playoff spot. We dug ourselves a pretty huge hole to start the season.

Sucks, but seems like the Rangers have pretty easy schedule remaining and probably will sneak in. Two home against NJD and then road games at FLA and CAR.

WPG has a couple tough games, one at WAS and then the home game vs. MON to overcome.

Horrid start, indeed. It's as if by the end of February, the hole was so deep, we were left for dead under the lonely grave of Paula Schultz.

The Devils went on a similar run 2 years ago after being in last place in December. They fell short in the last week of the season. Hopefully we don't have the same fate.

Hopefully they make it but even if they come up a point or two short it will be something tremendous to build on for next year. I still have my doubts but if we add some offense somehow through a trade(s) or FAs, this year won't really matter. I think we have a solid foundation.

Getting Help from NBC

Mike Milbury thinks the Wings are going to surpass us and make the playoffs ... which, for me, means our chances are pretty good now, as it's known that anything he touches immediately turns to runny dog poop.

Keith Jones picks us to make it.

My sentiments as well, EK ... I mentioned in the GDT that we are only a couple of pieces away from being a contender next year. The work ethic and culture change that this team has seen this year is excellent. Add a scoring forward, and Ryan Murray's help on defense, and we should be in great shape.

Remaining games, for reference:

:wild: - CGY (in progress, tied at 1), LAK, EDM, @COL

:cbj: - @SJS, @DAL, NSH

:wings: - PHX, LAK, NSH, @DAL

:stars: - @LAK, @SJS, CBJ, DET

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, Games 45 and 46 are against LA and SJ for both Columbus and Dallas, before the showdown between the two.

DAL 2 LAK 2.

With how things go this week and Detroit and Dallas both playing at least one (maybe two) games, is there any chance of CBJ clinching scenarios with the Dallas game?
