I dont hate Torts but this was the right move. His style doesnt work anymore in hockey at least in regards to winning a stanley cup. The powerplay has been a disaster since he came here. Also his handling of kreider im sure didnt help especially when kreider started playing well after moving up with stepan and nash(where he should have been all season)

Its funny to see all the names come up.

"Im OK* with Dallas Eakins"

*until Im absolutely roasting him in 8 months when hes actually coaching a ****ed up roster.
I really don't get what you want people to say. The coach was fired, people are talking about replacements :dunno:

There's a billion other places to talk about the roster and the players. This is the coach search thread

Who are the most offensive minded coaches out of that list?

Im completely blanking on whats Lindys style is for some reason.

Dreger talking about Messier on NHL Live.

Honestly wonder about him as a coach. He'd definitely demand a ton of respect.

In the end, though, I'd definitely say NO to Messier. Literally has no coaching experience.

I feel as if now we shouldn't make any big moves this offseason, except for a Richards buyout (even then, not entirely necessary). Let's see what we really have under the new coach, whoever that may be.

No Messier. It will be a joke.

No AV. Vancouver didn't score in the playoffs either. No Ruff.

I would want Eakins. It doesn't always have to be veteran coaches. Pittsburgh won with a rookie coach. Maybe some fresh blood, and some fresh ideas is what we need.

However, if Tippett is available, I'd say go for it. Phoenix has a lot less offensive horses than we do, and he's done well there.

Torn on Boucher. He's obviously have better defense and goaltending here, but we don't have anyone near Stamkos-MSL calibre.

NO AV. No Ruff.

of the two ex-Islanders coaches being mentioned Nolan would be great for your team, Gordon would be a DISASTER.

In what way would Gordon be a disaster? It's not like the Islanders were expected big things when he was coach.

I feel like theres plenty of people who were rooting for Torts' demise just so they can have this sort of conversation. So fun. The shiny new toy is coming.

But just like Renney, just like Torts, reality will set in really quickly.

Umm he took over the team in game 6 at NJ . Keenan stopped coaching. Messier called a time out

I dont know the different coaches well enough to have a preference. As long as we get one that at least has an inkling of what offense is, it should be an improvement (well.. i hope).

oh, and the option Glen Sather (you'll likely be banned, FYI)
Bwahahaha :)

That's what I'm sayin. When was the last woman NHL coach (if any)?

I'm guessing there haven't been any, both due to the fact that most (all?) NHL coaches have played to at least AHL level (no women, except for the goalie in Tampa), and to a large extent, like most sports, the NHL is a large 'boys club'.

Are the coaches of the female National teams women?

Regardless, can't see the Rangers hiring the first female coach in history at this point in time

This is not the place for this but I'm gonna say it anyway, the Rangers have more talent than most want to give credit for. they DO need some pieces (pmd, 2nd/3rd line c) but people act like we have no talent whatsoever. juggernaut? no. but this team is more talented than they showed with Torts

That just comes off as such a strange pandering to the casual fanbase than an actual intelligent management decision IMO.

They'd can Torts after all the issues of this season (injuries, lockout, yadda yadda) for Mark Messier? I'd be sick.

Yeah, I don't think the rosters are comparable in any way. This roster is pretty clearly far, far superior to the 08-09 one.

If they want to bring him in as an assistant, it would be ok, but definitely not as the head guy. If he wants to coach, would rather he did an apprenticeship with another team

The big thing with Messier is we just got rid of a tyrant. I should think we should avoid replacing him with the world's meanest human in Messier.

This poll doesn't even have Sully. Dark Horse option. I'd vote for him.
