Had Richards produced at even the same level this year as last we could have been top four. I understand you and Kershaw both hate every player on the team and think we are complete scrubs but it's tiresome. This team isn't as bad as it looked this year. No world beater IMO but also not just lucky to be there.

Youve made it quite clear you dont understand. I like plenty of players just fine -- Im also well aware that championship caliber teams have much better players in similar roles.

I very much doubt this.

We played really really bad hockey under our coach. After rebuilding for ten years, we weren't even close. Why would Slats only fire the coach to accomodate Hank?

When did the Rangers rebuild for 10 years? Granted I've only been a fan since the mid 90s, but they were in 'win cup' mode before that so it must have been a while ago

Not even responding to the first part because it's more of the same with you. As to the bolded so do I except not at every position, championship teams get the most out of their players which is a coaches job. We can go round and round about this but it's six of one half a dozen of the other. You can't win without talent, and you can't win without a coach who utilizes the talent he has however marginal it may be, and this team isn't marginally talented.

a few things

torts was a clown. period. his results were so-so but his personality was like a cactus stuck in our arses. he was the bobby knight of the nhl-just with alot less wins.

his system was BORING and that matters people. had we won a cup, he would still be here. we didnt. hes gone. so much for the 4 3rd lines torts system... lol

i guess benching beaver and putting him on the 4th line didnt sit well with the guys... huh ?

do not kid yourself. this roster, this year with a more creative offensive minded coach who taught a system of creating chances and pressure offense and actually understood the importance of TEACHING A POWERPLAY THAT CREATED SOMETHING would have had more success. period.

henrik lundqvist is a happy man today. a very happy man. hes endured the torts system for too long. winning games 2-1 wears on ya after awhile.

no more torts and sully. that alone ( and the fact that mariano the great blew it last night ) make this a very good day.

i really hope we get an infusion of talent and offensve ability and perhaps less 3rd line grinder types. im looking forward to a few new faces on this roster that can actually beat someone one on one and create offensive chances on the rush for a change.

and lastly, ive been "not a torts guy" for a long time and ive never forgiven him for what he did to EL haha

seriously though, this is the right move for this franchise. time to move on and bring some excitement back to broadway. torts had his run. he won ZERO cups. and dont give me the lack of talent argument- many of these rosters were HIS GUYS and he had control over whom he kept and whom he dumped. he built his teams and they didnt get it done.

later clown :p:

yea, the rangers can out class a lot of teams in two areas, defense and goaltending. But offensively this is a middle of the pack team, at best.

I know you're joking but in a similar vein, are there any European coaches out there worthy of consideration? I honestly have no idea.

There are many , same with junior and collegiate hockey. Ulf Dalhlen, Samuelsson, Krupp, Bengt A Gustaffson, Ronnqvist, Laxdal, Lowry, Allain, Arena, Bennett are just a few.

We had a great firesale in on the spring of 04'. We traded Kovalev, Rucinsky, Leetch, Barnaby, Nedved, Simon, Malakhov and Carter for picks and prospects.

Nine years ago.

The idea of a championship team is kind of romanticized. The Championship is awarded to the team that can win 4 out of 7 4 times. It's always won by a team with deficiencies.

I assume we're talking about Eakins here? He's been one of the best coaches in the AHL for the Marlies over the last few years. Widely considered THE up and coming coach who doesn't have an NHL gig yet.

Marlies play an uptempo, modern, style.

because he has played 3 games as a Ranger :sarcasm:

In Torts system yes, he has all of his lines playing the same way. They don't sustain a pressure and take a lot of shots from the perimeter. It's not hard to understand why they don't score goals when you take that into consideration. Braden Holtby was right when he said it was a "walk in the park", bit him in the ass in the end, but none the less they didn't really challenge goalies.
