I voted other - and I'll admit I don't know crap.

Do hockey teams ever hire assistants from other teams like they do quite often in football? Both the Raiders and Chargers got their head coach from the Broncos staff.

Anyway in that vein my vote is for Joe Mullen. I don't have any idea if he's qualified but he's been an assistant for quite a while.

Now someone tell me how stupid I am. I can take it.

Messier Will Be Choking Players Who Don't Follow And The Others Will Break It Up Lol

Eakins or Desjardins would be good. I'd also take a look at the assistants in Boston, Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, San Jose--the teams that are still in it or in Ottawa a team that way overachieved considering all the injuries they fought through this year and maybe keep in mind Doug Weight as well.

I do not like Ruff--no Sedin's so no to Vigneault.

I'm in total shock by this, I don't think torts did anything wrong. Do you think if you have a more offensive-minded coach, you would have put up more goals in the playoffs? Should be an interesting offseason.

I'll take torts any day, maybe NYI will look to hire him.

PS- Why isn't capuano on your next coach poll? :sarcasm:

Sounds like Liam may be a upset kid today...Remember him?

Yes :(

No Jeff Beukeboom option? Was coaching juniors before the Wolfpack.. has ties to NYR... any chance of that happening??

This move HAD to be made as Torts was just too stubborn to change. It wouldn't surprise me if the players who are glad to see him go are having a quiet celebration right about now; I can imagine Lundqvist being one of them. I think Lundqvist's recent comments had A LOT to do with this move. Lundqvist needs help, and he didn't see Torts' system giving him that help.

Usually when you make a coaching change, the new guy is the opposite of the guy you just let go. No to Ruff, Vigneault, not sure about Boucher (didn't they play a defensive system when he was there? I hadn't seen too many TB games in recent years).

Coaching here is definitely not like coaching in, say, Nashville. Whoever they pick will have to be able to handle the scrutiny. I'm guessing they hire someone with NHL coaching experience; maybe not head coaching experience, maybe an assistant somewhere. But Sather tried that with Bryan Trottier once, and that didn't work out well, lasting less than a season, so maybe not. Maybe they wait for another NHL head coach to become available.

1 - Welcome.
2 - Utah? Wow.
3 - You are not stupid for stating an opinion, it's as good as any other.
4 - You better have a thick skin :)

Guy Boucher is also an option. Don't know if I can take another defensive system though.

Actually, we have dissected this ad nauseum on our board. Boucher is not defensive oriented at all, quite the opposite. The 1-3-1 gets a poor rap due to that one game against Philly but keep in mind what he had to work with. Tampa's defense was (and still is) putrid, as was their goaltending. Suffice it to say, the Rangers don't have that issue.

This vid covers the 1-3-1 very well.

That said, Eakins seems ideal for you guys given his reputation with youth.

As for AV, he has similarities to Torts. While a good coach and certainly able to make a defensive system pay dividends with the right roster. My biggest criticism to him is stubbornness. Once the man has a set focus, he will rarely deviate, to the point of failure. He also has a tendency to force players to play his system in lieu of adapting it to benefit their skillset. That is the primary reason you never saw Garrison on our first unit powerplay. AV forced him into a defensive role and continued to roll Edler. And god help you if he finds a favorite pairing because, again, he will stay with it for ages.

Alain Vigneault seems like he would be a good candidate. Very impressive seasons with the Canucks.

I can't say I know enough about his systems, personality, etc.

why wouldn't he be good here?

Definitely don't want Ruff

The timing is easy, Vancouver is also looking for a coach and you don't want someone snatched infront of you.

Why? Why are people talking about him? I've not even heard of him since he was an assisten for TML...

I assume we're talking about Eakins here? He's been one of the best coaches in the AHL for the Marlies over the last few years. Widely considered THE up and coming coach who doesn't have an NHL gig yet.

Marlies play an uptempo, modern, style.
