I would have thought the same, but this season, so far, it's been a major improvement. Julian is acting as more of a host and just setting up CJ. Very little interjection from him compared to previous years. No reason that should change now.

He's fine until it comes to anything Toronto VS Ottawa. Then heavy bias comes out favouring the Sens. That's only going to increase now that he's their official beat reporter. Like good for him moving back closer to home and a new gig but he's basically going to be the Noodles of the CJ Show.

I like Noodles; seems the people who take issue with him live in or are from Toronto. I am neither, so his 'Toronto' takes don't offend me. As for his Leafs takes, he is a talking head just like the rest'of'em; everyone has an opinion. If Julien does go off the rails too far, I'll happily stop listening like I did for anything related to Jeff Marek (could not handle the pompousness of that guy). That would be disappointing though as I like CJ, the information he shares and how he shares it.

No clue how that dude got the gig with CJ in the first place. I listened to a few episodes of that show when it started and I just couldnt stand Julian. Checked out after that and have never gone back.

Julian seems like a nice enough guy but I've never seen a hockey writer know so little about hockey.

So because the NHL players don't run with gangsters and drug dealers they're boring eh? ok...

I dunno about you, but I prefer players solidly committed to the game, and with the vast majority of them we get it, and the vast majority are decent people outside of the game.
Yeah, look at some recent events with hockey players and re-think this. And hockey has many issues over the years…

Anybody tried the new Hockey Show with Mike Futa?

I watched both morning shows on the sports networks in Canada this morning. Surprisingly little hockey content considering the season is about to start (in North America). Mostly football, baseball and basketball.

If I compare the attention for soccer in my country with the amount of hockey on TSN and Sportsnet in general it is a lot less dominant. I am always a bit disappointed by that.

Nowhere to the degree that NFL & NBA players do. Money goes to their heads, and they do stupid and terrible stuff.

I used to love Overdrive and still do at times but I just can't handle Jeff Oneill anymore.

O-Dog is the stereotypical Loud Mouth. Kypreos used to be exactly the same until he grew up.

He loves to make a bold (and usually wrong and/or stupid) statement/prediction then when challenged on it his instinct is to just yell and scream so as to drown out the other speaker.

Like Nick I hope he gets through emotional puberty one day and sorts it because yeah, he's very annoying and overall I find him not very insightful even when not pounding the table like a hungry toddler.

I think it's a symptom of a bigger issue, which is that the NHL is still bush league compared to the NFL, NBA and even MLB. The players almost universally have zero personality, and that theme runs through every other aspect of the game, including the media.
NHL demographics hold players to a different standard than the other sports.

NHL media compared to nfl is embarrassing.
Friedman is so far up is own rear and he doesn’t have any insider knowledge. Just tries to report things quickly after they have happened and takes guesses on his hunches. Seems like Mareks ego somehow counteracted Friedemans but now it’s left unchecked.
Dreger is the same
Chris Johnson is the king of fake insiders.

Me too actually, i couldnt change my tv plan online with bell to add TSN. oh well one game, next one is on Oct 22 so i'll get it figured out by then.

But I do miss Joe Bowen's voice and passion.

TSN hockey panel is much more entertaining than Sportsnet. They try to use their personalities and offer a little bit of humour and have decent enough analysis.
The only person I really like on the TSN panel is Cheryl Pounder. Duthie is OK and I can tolerate Dreger but Jeff O{Neil brings the panel way down.
