Kyper and Bourne is my last resort show when I’ve exhausted all other shows and podcasts. It’s basically lowest common denominator Leafs talk. I mean for goodness sake they still harp on Nylander, guess Kyper can’t let go how wrong he was about him.

The Holmberg offer-sheet talk is typical Toronto Media Doomer talk. Like Siegel and his article thinking about Nylander’s next contract and fear-mongering about the cap. Leafs are playing too good so they’ve gotta manufacture controversy.

I am sorry, but Julia Tocheri should not be hosting Leafs Lunch IMO. It's really nothing against her and her broadcasting skillset, I just don't think she is as invested in the team as someone needs to be while hosting a Leafs centric show.

I genuinely hate being the dude to shit on women in sports, because they get enough unsolicited bullshit just by being in a historically male dominated industry. But at the end of the day when you don't provide accurate takes on what is going on I feel like its worthy of being called out. I would say the same unpreparedness is shown with Adam Wylde on the Steve Dangle Podcast Network. They are both talented broadcasters, but they don't know the team intimately enough to host a show on the Leafs IMO.

In the first 5 minutes of the Leafs Lunch show today she referenced a Marner goal that did not occur, and she also said she wished the games were tighter in score so that there would be more excitement and give her more to talk about today.....excuse me what?? This is Leafs Lunch right?? I recognize this was said tongue and cheek, but it is comments exactly like these that give Toronto Maple Leafs fans a bad reputation league wide, and it's also a statement you'd never actually hear come out of any diehard Leaf fan's mouth.

if you can't fill an hour and half of content after a 7-0 win, or 15 straight games with points then I don't know what to tell you. If you are truly a fan of the team, this past month has been heaven.

I do think Julia is a talented host, and she has a place in sports media, I just don't think she should host a Leafs Lunch.

Andi Petrillo was far more invested in the team emotionally, and it showed in her work. I don't think this has anything to do with gender, it really has everything to do with devotion to the team you are hired to report on.

Am I alone on this?

Andi was also a seasoned broadcaster who legitimately watched the games and like you said was interested in the work. It seems like JT has too much on the go and doesn’t take the opportunity too seriously. Regardless I don’t really listen to leafs lunch. I find it not really great. I rather listen to Locked on Leafs or something.

I'd rather have no coverage than this

Lol, people blow this way out of proportion. Bourne said, that this is the type of player that the analytics departments of the teams would like to OS, because it makes sense. Doesn't mean that it will happen, because the GMs are too afraid to use OS these days. But basically players with mid-6 potential on cap teams that you can get for cheap, those are types of players teams should target. Because the compensation is next to nothing, the teams are unlikely to match, and the players actually accept those offers because they get paid more.

But like I said, these don't happen because GMs don't want to piss off other GMs and owners.

Ya you're probably right. She's still super early on into her career and she really is being pulled in so many different directions. I guess it would be challenging to key in on one specific thing. I really don't have anything against her as a broadcaster, just think there should be someone more invested as a host of a Leafs segment. Al's brother, Downtown Steve Brown (youtube), and Steve Dangle (sportsnet) all embody that passion that we all share for the team. I love when there is a mix of fan perspective with a former player perspective. It is the ideal combo IMO.

Leafs lunch may not be the best show, but I don't get much Leafs centric content here on the west coast. It's about all I get.

Overdrive is unreal, the panel is always hilarious. But their takes can be hit and miss. They tend to flow with the results of the team and they are oddly a bit manic when it comes to their assessments. Wherein, if the team follows this 15 game pt streak with 3 straight L's, the panel will turn the narrative quick. I listen more for the banter, not the opinions usually lol.

If you’re looking for something like leafs lunch but not exactly leafs lunch try the locked on leafs podcast. Al’s brother is the host of that with David Massuretti from the sun/star/athletic? I can’t remember LOL.

Even if the offer sheet rumor were true, if the number is below 2.1M I can't see it being too tough a decision not to match it. If it's over that number, I think Dubas is happy to take a 2nd rounder as compensation

Ya I listen to that from time to time. It is good for sure. Maybe I am a bit of a goldilocks when it comes to a show. I like the back and forth of a host and co-host. Locked on Leafs, albeit done by Al's Brother, who I think is very knowledgeable and level headed, can be a bit boring when he's not talking to another host.

But yes, he does a great job on Locked on Leafs

I think the most recent offersheet not exactly paying the biggest of dividends thus far is the main factor in explaining why more GMs don't proceed down this path.

Overdrive is at its top when Jeff and Bryan are at each other's throats and Noodles has to play mediator.

That and when a guest, a pro athlete, references being a pro athlete like Noodles and O'Neil, because the temperature in the room rises a gazillion degrees and Hayes gets a little flustered.

I was listening to it one afternoon driving back from a soon to be renamed casino and some random valley girl sounding reporter was chatting with Al's brother and it was 97% cringe. I still catch Overdrive once in a while but without O'Neill it's kind of sad.

Whatever happened to Doug MacLean even he was more bearable than Noodles and Frankie Boreado.
The fact that you like odog and Doug Maclean means you like obnoxious blowhard idiots and aren't interested in actual intelligent sports talk. You're the reason there's so much garbage in sports radio, they're appealing to people like you

Jesus Christ, start your own damn podcast then or go read a Jonas Siegel article. No one cares dude. Intelligent sports talk sucks. People are allowed to like whatever we want. I want to be entertained and laugh, not be bored to death with numbers.

Is there a TSN requirement that you need to worship at the alter of the Winnipeg Jets.

Noodles is captain of the fan club but seems everyone there gushes about them and always has them as the Canadian team most destined for success.

This has been going on for at least 5 years. It is weird. Mind you, this might be the best they have looked but their playoff success is only marginally better than the Leafs. So why all the gushing indeed?

I feel for the Jets, despite how well they are playing, they are still not link to the HomeTown boy coming home and help win the Cup with Toews.
You have Chevy(who I think is their GM) who used to be part of the Hawks MGT that knows Toews, Hawks is tanking hard and Toews is a UFA after this season and yet, there is still no link/buzz about Toews coming home and lead the Jets to the Cup.
If this situation is with the Leafs where it is the last year for McD and Drai with their contracts at Edmonton.(I know that’s impossible bc Drai contract expires before McD). There will be non stop buzz about Leafs getting the inside track to trade for McD and Drai before the TDL and win the Cup….pretty sure the moment the Leafs lose a 2-3games in a row, it will be ‘We Need to Bring Him Home.’ Every time there is a press conf., everyone will ask will you trade for McD or ask the players, do you think you can play with McD….

I would bet there is local buzz. The Jets generate the 2nd least national buzz (after the Sens) imo. And I do think I saw an article on that over the past month, mind you not from any mainstream media outlet.

The media in Toronto is good and bad... we get lots of coverage, but we also get lots of nonsense. Again, most of these talking heads are just regular joes with no connection to the team other than officially covering them for their job. Their opinions are no better or worse than those we get on this forum in most cases; in other words, it is entertainment.

Winnipeg is the “safe” Canadian team to hype up. No fan base truly hates them like the Leafs. They’re also in a market that doesn’t get a lot of exposure so it’s the hipster pick to claim they’re the best Canadian team. And, unlike the Leafs, the Jets have won series with this group of players, so they don’t have any playoff baggage attached to them.

Absolutely legendary episode of Oberdrive today. Odog really gets on my nerves when he's acting like a pouty manchild but when he's on he's responsible for some of the funniest bits and running gags. I was laughing from start to finish tonight.
Agreed, he's great! Bothers me sometimes BUT it's the best show LOL I die laughing daily.

Anytime he is on with Jonas it is a great episode.

O and Jonas are like the anti-chemistry when talking about eachother that becomes perfect when together for 3 hours
Wife and I made the same comment today!

Between the cronies, Hacksaw Haysey B and the One Man Gang we were chuckling pretty much the entire way through.
