Oh yay, HNIC is back. That means a pre-game show consisting of 5 minutes talking about the actual game ... followed by 25 minutes of Hometown Hockey, Good Deeds Cup, Hometown Heroes, Good Deed Heroes, Hometown Deeds, Good Cup Hockey and anything else that only the 14 people that live in those hometowns actually care about.

/rant

Hometown Deeds always hits me right in the feels.

Rod Black is leaving TSN? I haven’t heard or seen him in years and didn’t know he was still there.

Don't forget about sprinkling in now a healthy dose of virtue signalling to placate the woke crowd.

Every time I turn on Overdrive it’s O Dog and Hayes talking over Noodles. I don’t blame them, considering he talks slowly and it takes 10 minutes for him to make a single point.

If you think that's bad - I had to listen to 590 in the office today, with Kypreos (I didn't realize he was back on the radio?).

He, literally, takes about 60 seconds to get a single thought out of his head. The pauses, the stutters, the tangents, etc. It's absolutely aimless.

This city deserves a higher quality media, man.

i'm guessing the fan's morning show went to whoever would work for the lowest salary , i've tried to give them a chance but i can't even listen for 5 mins before changing stations but my sports alternative is to listen to someone who keeps saying Coco endlessly like he thinks it's really cool , lol

so i'm now left to listen to music on my morning drive

Stephen Brunt is by far and away one of the best radio guys in this city. No agenda. Smart guy who lets guests speak without interrupting. Isn’t afraid to disagree but does it in a low key well thought out manner. Have really grown to respect him over the years.

Rod Black on his TSN exit, his moustache’s future and what comes next: ‘I’ve got a lot left in me’ - The Athletic

After four decades, he was off the air.

Black announced his departure from TSN and CTV on Thursday, ending a run that began in Winnipeg, then stretched out onto television sets across Canada. He covered the Olympics, figure skating, hockey, football and, for a stretch, real-world news as co-host of Canada AM.

The 59-year-old said he had known the end was coming for months, and that he authored his departure with executives at TSN. He said he wanted to call one more game at every CFL stadium before he left, including the network’s coverage over Thanksgiving.

Other than saying he had been under contract, Black declined to address the specifics of the move.

“Just look at what’s gone in the last little while,” he said. “I don’t blame the CTV family. I don’t blame anybody in the business. I know the realities of this. I know what’s going on. I know they’re cutting in a lot of places."

“Am I bitter about that? No, I’m not bitter at all.”

Bell Media, which owns TSN, has slashed costs across its operation this year. The company pulled the plug on three all-sports radio formats — in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Hamilton — in February, laying off staff and filling the air with cheaper programming.

The television side was also targeted. Dan O’Toole, Natasha Staniszewski and Brent Wallace were all removed from their long-time roles at TSN that same month. Michael Landsberg left in July, while radio host Andi Petrillo announced her own departure last month.

Sportsnet, the rival in Canada’s sports television duopoly, had already undergone a series of cuts.

“It’s the realities of the broadcast industry right now,” said Black. “We’ve watched this. Is it surprising? To me, it’s not surprising at all.”

Black had been ubiquitous on Canadian sports television for a generation. He was a play-by-play voice for the network’s coverage of the Canadian Football League, and was also a voice for its NBA, hockey and golf broadcasts.

Sad part is all these kids come along and take their jobs at a fraction of the price and devalue their whole industry.
The girl hosting the sportsnet hockey show is terrible. There was a girl doing play by play of the Ducks - Wild game that was ridiculously bad.
I suppose at a certain point we will just get AI voices.

It’s really simple if you have modern phone and car.

Don Cherry’s Grapevine Podcast
McCown and Shannon
The Chirp - Darren Millard
Leafs Lunch
Leafs Report - Siegel and Mirtle
32 Thoughts Marek and Friedman
Ray and Dregs

Agreed, he's fantastic. Wish they kept Richard Deitsch as well.

I heard him and cringed as well. It's like they let fan of the team with absolutely no common sense get on the radio. His takes are just a hair above Don Cherry's when it comes to the current NHL.

I started watching some of Don Cherry's you tube channel with his kids and when he doesn't have a time limit like Coaches Corner he tends to blabber about stuff and sounds incoherent. This is what Kypreos brings to the table...ugh..

I’ve been listening to the Kyperos and Bourne show and I don’t think Kyper is as bad as he was before. I don’t think his takes we’re outrageous and he seems more zoned in.
