Blowing the lead again isn't ideal, just need to win this last period.

Also this Dermott and Biega 3rd pairing is awful, at fully health on D, Lilly should never be out of the lineup for Dermott.

If we don't go for the big fish on D you need to grab Mayfield for 2nd or 3rd pair. Super cheap big physical and knows how to play playoff hockey.

Yup. If he doesn’t play lights out all the same issues come to the surface
We didn’t need lights out, we needed average today and we haven’t gotten that. The 2nd goal, no way he should be getting sniped by reeves. The third goal, it went five hole even when he went down to take the low shot, he’s gotta save that

The games are literally repeats of one another for the last week

Get off to a great start and score a couple goals early, build a multi-goal lead only to cough it up

I can’t argue with that on tonight’s game

We havent played that bad but everytime we make a mistake it ends up in our net

They were absolutely awful in the second period, numerous giveaways, one that led to the game tying goal and had very little chances on goal against the Rangers. Toronto has had one good period, but they continue to do what has plagued them this entire road trip, not playing 60 minutes.

Other teams are always gonna score goals, but giving up as many two goal leads that the Leafs have in four of their five last games is uncalled for.

Isn't the cap an issue?

Well, hard to say. Chychrun isn’t expensive cap wise in the $4 million range but you’d have to do some in-season cap adjustments. Not sure how possible that is in this pandemic situation though. Though I’m not sure how many cup contenders would have the free cap space to do it either.

Gotta hope Campbell isn't getting in his own head. That goal on Liljegren turnover was still stoppable. His positioning when the puck starts moving around has been horrible lately. Mediocre save attempt.

Goaltenders are apart of choking leads

The second and third goals were weak by Campbell

At some point, you need to abandon the "clean exit out of the zone" strategy and just get it out any way you can, especially when the other team is pressing

Inches from clearing the blueline but we keep forcing passes

Yup. and that got us in some trouble in the playoffs last season... if the controlled exit is there to a reasonable level, take it... if you have to force it, at least 75% of those have to be simple chips out... the constant turnovers are lame. I don't know if that is the coaches game plan or just the players misreading the play.

I find tonight we have a lot of 'fade-away' passes too... I effin hate those. Commit to the play, be it a pass, a shot or a hit... play through the puck... this lay-up stuff works when it is not what you do all the time.
