Toronto Maple Leafs are surprisingly underperforming

As a habs fan it gives me great pleasure to watch the leafs crash and burn, it's part of the rivalry ;)
That being said, they are 4-3-1 (better start than last year) and dealing with injuries to key players.
I don't think they're a contender; their D is weak, goaltending suspect, they lack grit and remain top heavy. I don't really like their bottom 6.
I'm also not sure if Keefe's message is being received anymore among the core 4

I'll laugh if Matt Murray is put on waivers by December.

Considering the Leafs got paid to take him, it wouldn’t be overly surprising.

If a team claims him, then Dubas just got free picks.

You’re acting like Dubas didn’t get paid to take on Murray and had to give up assets for him. I doubt if he’s waived that the Leafs regret trading their best propect ‘Future Considerations’ for Murray and 2 picks.

Lol, luckily there was a team that would take him, or I mean luckily he played for the Soo , so Dubas would nab him.

Nitpicking here, but isn't a core 5? Marner, Mathews, Tavares, Nylander, Rielly?

Buffalo thanks the Leafs profusely. The good news is you get to pay Murray $4.7 million next year as well.. Thanks Dubas!

I mean he’s played one game, possibly injured.

You got people saying it’s still early for Campbell who’s played 6x the games.

Murray is definitely a risk, but it’s a risk you got paid to take. Leafs will LTIR him if he sucks, Ottawa was too cheap to do that so they paid the Leafs picks instead.

Once again you’re twisting the facts. Reportedly Buffalo tried to trade for him at 50% retention. No one tried to trade for him with the retention Dubas took on

You're twisting the facts.

The deal was done, there was no mention of retaining 50%. We don't even know if the Buffalo deal contained any retention. They went to Murray and he said I'm not waiving to go to Buffalo.

Where's your source that Ottawa was retaining 50% for Murray, or are you just making things up as you go along as usual?

Can a guy like Murray with a NTC be waived?

I thought guys on NTCs and NMCs were immune from waivers.

NMC can't be sent to the minors, NTC can. They simply can't be traded (at the risk of stating the obvious).

No move provides protection from pretty much everything, while no trade provides protection from being traded (depending on the wording of their specific NTC).

There's a difference between a NTC and NMC, it appears you aren't aware.

NTC have nothing to do with waivers. NMC means you can't be waived (without permission). Matt Murray never had a NMC. He no longer a NTC either as the Leafs had no obligation to honour it.

His NTC was very limited anyway, it was only 10 teams he could refuse to be traded to. Unfortunately for Ottawa, Buffalo was one of those 10 teams.

Thank you.

Nah Matthews, Marner, and Tavares priced him out of town. It was a decision point to let Hyman walk. If Dubas wanted to, They could have made some moves to make it happen (getting rid of Holl, Kerfoot, not signing the corpse of Jarnkrok, stuff like that)
As you said, the Leafs could have kept him if they moved money around. The term Hyman got was too much. We'd been saying for years that he'd never age well. We'll see.
