Toronto Maple Leafs are surprisingly underperforming

Too early, bump the thread in a month or two if they're still struggling.

They've got the offense on paper to overcome their defence/goaltending.

They'll go on a run, then we'll get the Leafs cup favourites threads.

Who was predicted to finish 32nd, 31st and 30th? That’s obviously a lie as they haven’t played Chicago yet.

Again, Samsonov has only lost to Vegas. Kallgren is the Leafs 4th goalie (AHL backup) who is playing like he’s an AHL backup.

Murray missed part of training camp, sucked one game and is injured again.
OK. 32nd, 30th and 29th.

Satisfied?

Great nitpicking...

Considering the Leafs got paid to take him, it wouldn’t be overly surprising.

If a team claims him, then Dubas just got free picks.

You’re acting like Dubas didn’t get paid to take on Murray and had to give up assets for him. I doubt if he’s waived that the Leafs regret trading their best propect ‘Future Considerations’ for Murray and 2 picks.
He did gave up assets: cap space... and an extra spot on the 50-player list.

Underperforming? Their division is stronger this season, their roster is worse than last season, and they severely downgraded their goaltending.

Some regression is to be expected

They look uninspired the whole game, turnovers and penalties had them in no rhythm and Tavares looks to be their best player right now.

Samsonov is playing well enough, being hung out to dry tonight and he will likely burn out as he's never had a #1 workload.

Keefe calling out the elite players with his lost and far away looks on the bench as Marner and Matthews disappeared again has Dubas torn between do I update my resume or fire Keefe..?

I agree with the bolded, not with the rest, especially not the cup favourites thing lmao. Still a playoff team on paper though.

Maybe it’s just me but continuing to run back the same thing every year and expecting a different result is crazy. Like…I’m sure the nerd’s numbers tell him they should have won in the playoffs by now and staying the course means they eventually will…but there are actual problems on this team. Effort and engagement problems. Dubas is going to be explaining his inactivity to another team during a job interview in the not too distant future. Their follow up questions better be about ensuring he’s not going to continue to hand jobs to former Marlies.

And media and sports betting love us for some reason, I just went on OLG and it still had Toronto ranked 2nd best odds to win the freaking stanley cup, how..HOW i ask you is this team ranked 2nd to win the cup?
this is how they do it

they find the right fanbases and goad them with a line

You don't say !

All part of a Machiavelan plan...

One wonders what moves they'll have to do once he's deemed fit enough to pley.

And what about that extra spot on the 50-player list?

Is that also part of the Shanaplan?

The 50 contract list doesn't mean much unless the Leafs are trading players for draft picks? Then they'll include some minor league players.

The Habs for example are burning a spot for Price.

There's only 23 players max on an NHL roster, 50 contracts is more than double that.

If he's healthy enough to play, the Leaf will play him? What's the problem? Lol. If he sucks the Leafs can LTIR him again.

You probably meant "unless the Leafs are trading draft picks for players", but you might not and are simply confused...

Happy to see that the complete lack of flexibility doesn't concern you.

Yeah, it's fine.

The 50 man contract limit has never been an issue. The Leafs can trade players too you know.

Montreal burning a spot for 5+ years for Price?
Edmonton burning 2 spots for Smith + Klefbom
