I don't think Rielly is a horrible Dman, but he definitely shouldn't be your first choice to put on the ice to defend a 1 goal lead with a couple minutes left in the game. The thing is the Leafs are playing him like he should be on the ice defending a 1 goal lead with a couple of minutes left by giving him so many minutes whether its justified or not.Every fanbase seems to complain about their "better" Dmen the same way I guess. So I understand that's a thing.
I just feel like Rielly is pretty solid, good contract, longest serving Leafs player I'm fairly confindent without looking it up. Maybe should have been the captain IMO, and I just think it's unfair to shit on the guy like he's Cody Franson or something.
I've said it before that I like Rielly and I WANT him to succeed, but by now we have to accept the player that he is and adjust accordingly which is less ice time. The Leafs are playing very well this season and are putting up a good amount of goals which is why its mind boggling that Rielly can STILL be a minus player on this team. How is that even possible unless you're playing pretty poor defense and it indicates that you should be playing less and/or not be playing against the opposing team's better players?
Also Rielly on his old contract, you can more easily live with the weaknesses in his game. Rielly with his new contract not so much.
