I get you’re going for hyperbole and all, but this seems impossible given TSN owns the CFL rights and advertise it out the wazoo. At some point you must have seen ads during a Leafs commercial break.

Yeah but i meant i thought they were done last year and this year .. but went to TSN and yes there are games scheduled this summer .. good for league they are gonna start up again

Don't watch a lot of it but glad the CFL is back. Definitely a great Canadian tradition.

Wish the TSN broadcast had more interesting announcers games are sometimes unwatchable because of boring announcing.

When I attended that game regularly, I looked forward to being in Hamilton...and quickly getting back to Toronto as soon as the game ended.

May have to PVR more games this year. Not as good to PVR CFL as NHL for some reason, but still good to passing over the talking head, parts I don't like & ads.

Quick question for hardcore CFL fans. Has there ever been consideration to make the rosters entirely Canadian? I'll hang up and listen.

it would reduce the quality of the game - substantially.

there has been a push to remove the ratio completely, and make Canadians stand on their own.

as of now, changing the ratio isn't really being discussed.

Oh, and nobody blows like the Argoooo's.

We don't produce enough pro-quality players for that mainly because university, junior, and high school football have either stagnated or regressed across most of the country over the last 50 years (Quebec is an exception). By comparison, junior and minor hockey in Canada have grown after the end of the old NHL sponsorship system thanks to forward-thinking leadership.

Theory is great, but pro sports rely on reality. Canadian universities have de-emphasized football over the last 50 years, while the NCAA has grown into a multi-billion dollar business and in number of universities playing at the highest level. Hard to blame the CFL for going south of the border whenever roster sizes increased.

it starts even younger than that. CFL being 100% Canadian (or not) isn't going to stop the helicopter mothers who are afraid little Johnny is going to hit his head playing football.

You're right, it is, but good luck finding a game on TV. The CIAU/CIS/U-Sports (they can't even settle on a name) has done nothing to grow and promote football, or really any of its sports, which in the modern era of sports means you lose ground every year. Canadian university football has a longer history (1861) than American college football (1869) and was a big deal in Canada right up to the 1960s. The country had a prominent football culture and infrastructure that was a close second to hockey. Junior hockey reinvented itself post-1967 expansion and the end of NHL sponsorship. U-Sports has spent that same time doing nothing beyond the bare minimum.

As for losing football programs, that could happen in the future as insurance costs keep rising. Some are being kept alive by alumni. The point is we have around the same number of programs we had 50 years ago. The only real growth area has been Quebec, but the new programs there have been privately funded, not through the universities.
