Anyways whatever detractors are saying about Slaf he tells to himself twofold at night in his bed, guy's got a shit attitude when it comes to his own game despite his natural cockiness  He's well aware of what he needs to do to be successful
In my line of work we call feedback necessary and don’t call those giving it detractors, but otherwise I have to agree, because he’s noticeably much better and habs have a full 1st line again.

I am officilly giving Slaf a new chance, I like what Ive seen from him lately. To me it seems like he might hit his assumed ceiling if he puts it all together at some point, otherwise he can just keep playing the same style he has played lately and he will imo be worth his contract as a whole. He is a win-win the way I see him as of now.
Laine is one of the rare big guys that makes it on skills alone from day one. Laine can score so easily from so far that strength and power are a secondary subset to his game. By contrast, while Slaf had enough skill and speed to get him in the NHL very young he was drafted as a power forward and to exploit this side it really starts at 21. It will happen simultaneously with the opening of our Cup window. Like Neely at 25 years old, when Slaf will have the puck in the last 20 feet around the net he’ll be just too heavy, strong and massive to move.

Saw that on the goal too! I said to my son that Allen must have had snow in his eyes or got distracted.

Caufield and Suzuki should ask Slaf to do that more often!
Isnt it unprofessional? I mean, in old times, Stu Grimson would beat him this idea off head.... :naughty:

Not liking his last couple games. Needs to reduce those blind passes and bad turnovers. Suzuki and Caufield haven't been lights out lately but he sure ain't helping his line right now.

If MLS is really trying to send a message, he needs to be benched next.
He obviously needs to be better but he’s not hurting the team. There are other players who are actively hurting the team when they are on the ice and they keep going without repercussions.

HuGo : pass on more skilled players for a potential big power forward.

Slaf : doesn't use his body, can't protect the puck, and makes boneheaded passes that result in turnovers.

Never been his biggest supporter but i've tried to turn the corner on him and be hopeful

That play yesterday where he got the puck and took his usual 3 seconds to understand what was going on and losing the puck instead of shooting broke me, you can't learn that stuff sadly

Typical Euro forward — the stereotype is they don’t like hitting or being hit. It’s not how they learn on their ice, it’s not in their instincts. They prefer not to use the body and NHL fans keep waiting on bated breath for the power forward that will never be. It’s just not their game.

To be fair, there are very few powerforwards in general, many more “powerful forwards” but the trade off you mention is worth noting: sacrificing productive skill for game breaking power potential is a heck of a risk.

Shane Wright is in his first real NHL season and he’s caught up to Slaf’s production. Cooley’s lapped him. It’s not going to look good if Slaf neither produces nor regularly impacts the game by playing the body/taking hits to make plays.

We can’t even look at some incredible defensive acumen either. He’s a project. Just gotta wait, hope, and grind our teeth as he struggles. Just like Kostitsyn and Galchenyuk, he will hope that next year is the year he makes the big jump in performance because it isn’t this year.

What more skilled players did they pass at #1 that could be reasonably picked there? I might give you Cooley, but that's it. And I still pick Slaf over him.

Shane Wright had and has bigger issues. Perhaps he matures, perhaps not.

You'll probably say Hutson, no one was going to pick him in the 1st round.
Shit drafts are shit, that was one of them.

Right now we have to hope+pray that Slafkovsky is the one who matures and gives regular, reliable efforts as his mega contract kicks in. Perhaps he matures, perhaps not.

Intensity is lacking, but it's not a character issue like it was for Wright.

Contract might (probably) be a mistake, but that's not his fault.

What is giving a half-ass effort as your team struggles for a playoff spot if not a character issue? Does Slaf need a white glove to offer him a golden invitation to give a full effort before he moves his feet?

I'm being facetious, of course but no more inappropriate as those who insist that Shane Wright has definitive character issues.
