oh okay what’s the Leafs chart look like?
[TBODY]
1st Pairing
2nd Pairing3rd Pairing

RiellyMuzzin,
BrodieHoll, Dermott, Liljegren, Sandin, Lehtonen, Marincin
[/TBODY]
I take McAvoy over Rielly, but I gotta say there's way more potential for one of Toronto's lower down guys to step up and fill a larger role than there is for Boston. Who knows how much Liljegren or Sandin's games improve heading into next year. Lehtonen is just destroying Finland right now. Dermott, kinda seems like he is what he is at this point but he's still young.

Where are you getting your info from? I’ve read quite a few Flames posts on here who had nothing but good things to say about him.
Go watch some footage from 2016-2018 when he wasn’t stapled to Gio and let me know how “defensively responsible” he looks.

Very fair deal overall. potentially looking a like a slight overpay or underpay depending on a lot of factors. But if that role was a pressing need for my team, I certainly wouldn't complain about it.

Now...

Andreas Johnson + Travis Dermott for Mackenzie Weegar (extended) and trade Justin Holl to become cap compliant.

Reilly / Brodie
Muzzin / Weegar
Lehtonen / Liljegren
Sandin

That would be, objectively, an outstanding off season for the Leafs considering their needs.

If they need more cap flexibility, trade Nylander to the Ducks in a deal for Rackell and Comtois and you're still fine. The Leafs also have Kerfoot as a trade assett.

Another move they could make if Pietrangelo were to go back to St. Louis is something like...

To St. Louis...
Andreas Johnson
Rasmus Sandin
1st round pick (2021)

To Toronto
Colton Parayko

Another target will be Savard out of Columbus. They still need more center help and Kerfoot would be the key to that trade.

Come on Dubas. One more piece gives us a competitive defense core.

Go watch footage from the 2015 playoffs when he dragged Deryk Engelland to looking like a great defender. Also no coincidence that Gio looks like a Norris contender with Brodie and not quite with Hamilton. Brodie looked bad under one coach and with one specific D partner while playing on his worse side.

i wouldn’t call it amazing, buts it’s at least serviceable.

We sort of saw the start of it last year once Keefe took over right?

The Leafs finished with the 10th best overall defensive numbers (xGA) and 17th fewest goals against from that date to the end of the season, despite half the Dcore being injured for large stretches.

To me, that was serviceable.

If Brodie meshes with Rielly well and we can add more depth to the right side, Toronto can certainly surprise more than a few folks. Hell, with Campbell having finally solidified the backup position and if Andersen has a bounceback year, who knows how well the team is going to do when it comes to goals against.

Gotta feeling the Leafs are gonna stand pat in net so we need Andersen to get back to his 2016-2019 form.

How did they have the cap to sign him? Unless it was for a discount.
The off-season 10% special.

They now have, according to Cap Friendly, a 21-player roster $1.1M over the cap.

Some moves will have to be made with not too much money coming back, especially with Dermott and Mikheyev not yet signed.

People saying they are out of the "Pietrangelo sweepstakes"... Really were they ever in it? Not without dumping off a big money contract. Hell, they couldn't really even afford to resign Barrie and Pietrangelo is a near Norris level guy. I don't think Toronto is going to be in position to offer something along the lines of $8million+ for him, even if he is a true two-way 1D. Brodie looks like he adds some defensive ability to a blue-line that sorely needed it at a price that while not "cheap" isn't awful and a term that only walks him to his age 34 season. Yeah it has some risk, but it isn't a brutal overpay and it is for a player that fits a need.
I believe they were in the sweepstakes but got promptly put on his no sign list after weird stuff like this started happening:

First pairing defenseman for a third line winger and a 7/8 Dman. How could they possibly turn down such a generous offer?

If we need to add a pick we will. And Dermott is a top 6. You can hate the Leafs all you want, but saying he's a #7-#8 is ridiculous. Weegar is really a #3-#4 on a good team. He's not a top pairong guy on a contender.
