Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

Who knew a player who put up 60 points last year and put up a point per game the year prior could still score a goal or two. Who knew a player who has averaged 55 to 75 points points for over a decade could still perform.

I just thought that as soon as a player has a down season, or even half a season they are finished. I just always believed that no matter what there was no correcting a drop in play - not even a trade or a new team or a new coach has ever been able to change the performance of a player. Despite what underlying numbers say about a players bad luck I just always thought as soon has there is a bad season they are instantly a has been and are washed up.

Look at Selanne - he was finished during 03-04 when he put up 32 points in 82 games, he was done. Amonte in 93-94 - only 38 points for the Rangers, career was over just three years in. Arnott in 02-03 wrapped up his career that season. Erik Karlsson is finished after his 20 21 season of 22 points - who would trade for him now as a shell of his former self?

ROR is increasing his value for one more big contract - he’s not giving hometown discounts to Toronto or the Blues. I think it will require at least 5 per to extend him.

Largely depends on what he does in the playoffs.

If he wins another Conn Smythe, all bets are off, you might be looking at 5 X 8M for the next contract for anyone that wants to ink him during the summer. If the Leafs go far in the playoffs with him just being a cog in the machine, then he might enjoy the stay enough to give somewhat of a discount for a few years. If the Leafs get bounced again, then I don't think anyone (including Matthews and Nylander) will be making long term plans on staying in Toronto.

@Habs Halifax about that broken foot that you were so convinced definitely matters......

It did matter cause the cost could have been higher if he improved his numbers. I don't think my statement was comprehended well but I'm not surprised. I didn't say he would never rebound and I actually said I feel ROR would bring it on a better team. More energy. Did you see that part?

I'll be okay with the Conn Smythe option.

He just had a hat trick in his 3rd game with Toronto lol
....the game after Kane had a hat trick and non-Leaf fans were "LOL you picked the wrong guy".

I'll never understand people who throw jabs then whine when they get punched back. But but but......(insert quivering lower lip)

Hes gonna stay in toronto.. just dont resign bunting and u can keep ROR.
What's the over/under Edmonton swoops in for Bunting?

ROR and Acciari have been fantastic since they got here, ROR showed tonight exactly why he was my top deadline target.

Yep creates an absolute matchup nightmare.

Really good decision for the Leafs. They probably could’ve stood to upgrade the goaltending too. But I don’t think there were many options out there to do so and not any cap to do so either.

ROR should open the ice up for the top two lines in a shutdown role and play pretty even with top opposition. Good to see him rise from the dead after miraculously healing from what some made seem to be a career ending foot injury from blocking a shot.
