How ridiculous does it sounds to discredit everything that is done against Buffalo. I guess whatever any player does in a game against Buffalo is useless.

ROR is increasing his value for one more big contract - he’s not giving hometown discounts to Toronto or the Blues. I think it will require at least 5 per to extend him.

Pointing out where the opponent sits with its current roster combined with who ROR plays with to formulate a "let's see how he does against formidable opponents" is ridiculous? Ok.

I am sure he’ll do just fine. He is an excellent player, despite having a down year overall. He has already proven what he can do against formidable opponents in the past, and it’s not like he is a much worse player now.

Hard to say. He's earned $76.5M so far in his career. The dilemma would be $25M more over 5 years or $12M more over 3 with the Leafs?

Other teams... 5x $5M+ (age 32/33 - 36/37) = $25M ($101.5M)
vs
Leafs.. 3x $4M max (age 32/33 - 34/35) = $12M ($88.5M)

Depends on how much he likes his stay with the Leafs in this playoff run.

I think Leaf fans need to get over the idea of hometown discounts. ROR and his agency team is historically ruthless in negotiations - he has his cup, he’s not taking a discount.

I don't think it's 0%. It's not 100% but it's not a far reach. ROR has earned a lot of money so his next contract may not be solely based on money.

What kind of discount matters.

Unfortunately I agree, if he performs well down the stretch in playoffs , he will still be in for a big payday. Young enough to still cash in on 3-4 year deal. Whether that’s St. Louis or another team with cap space, don’t see how the leafs can fit him in without moving out other pieces

Just wondering, the reasoning for the Leafs being limited to 3 years in the scenario above?

His time to take a discount is when he’s 35-37. Not 32 where he has one big contract left, IMO.
