Confirmed Trade: [TOR/STL/MIN] O'Reilly, Acciari, Pillar to TOR; Abramov, Gaudette, ‘23 1st, ‘23 3rd, ‘24 2nd to STL; ‘25 4th to MIN

It’s a lot for ROR Forsure given the year he’s having and the fact he might be slowing down. But it’s a move I actually like. Leafs are in win now mode and each year they don’t make a run their window closes more. Gotta capitalize on their time with their core together before they gotta make a move to accommodate new contracts for matthews/marner whoever that casualty might be.

Still hope they get knocked in the first because I enjoy tradition. But this might help their chances.

From the leafs perspective it’s a late 1st, 2nd, 4th for O’Reilly with 75 % retention, Murray with 25 % retention and Acciari.

For the Blues they re-tool/rebuild and get some valuable picks.

Win-win.

Exactly the trade they had to make. Few years back... :)

I'm old enough to remember when we traded Coffey and Primeau for Shanahan. Sometimes you need specific players to win.

Kind of. It was ROR and Noel Acciari and minor league prospect for a 1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Abromov and Gaudette. It is the title of the thread LMAO.

Certain posters really need to put their hate for everything Toronto aside and understand the leafs just significantly upgraded their bottom 6. These players aren't gonna be asked to be top line centers or wingers. It was a great move by the Leafs that set them up nicely going into the playoffs

This guy is just desperate to go after the Leafs lol. Conveniently leaving out the 2021 4th rounder Pillar, Acciari, and double retention eh.

If you want to look at O’Rielly alone it boils down to O’Rielly for a first and second rounder. Not bad at all.

We don’t need 70pts from ROR or anything like that. Just a hard playing 3C with playoff pedigree who can win important defensive zone faceoffs and chip in some offence in the bottom six and second PP unit. He doesn’t need to skate like McDavid to provide that. And Acciari is a pest who is top 10 in hits this year, the Leafs can certainly use as much of that as they can get.

The bottom six got significantly better and nothing came off the roster. Nice work Kyle.

Your next assignment is much easier: go pick up a defenseman better than Justin Holl. And if you’re feeling particularly randy get a more dependable backup goalie too.

Or maybe they finally slay the demons and roll all the way to the Cup like Washington did. There’s no telling how far the confidence boost could take them once the monkey is off their back.
 
Damn. Just saw the title and my reaction was "ooooh well this is interesting."

Toronto has a 3C that's a capable 1C. Or a capable 1LW.
 
I like it and think this is a great trade for TOR, He'll add much needed maturity, calmness and experience when it matters. They don't need O'Reilly to be a 90 pts player the rest of the way. They need him in the playoffs and I am willing to bet money he gives them exactly what they need. They are certainly a better team today than they were prior to the deal and I like their playoff chances more.

I still like Carolina there if they can get one decent upgrade at forward! And Boston. But Toronto would be 3 or tied with Tampa at worst!
