Confirmed with Link: TOR sign RD Zach Bogosian [1 year, 1M]

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
If we keep Dermott + Mikheyev to a combined ~2.6M, that could work. I don't know how ideal running a 21 man roster is for an entire season though. Seems like very limited flexibility. You pretty much couldn't scratch or sit a player with a minor injury for a game unless they could go on LTIR or be sent to the minors without waivers.

The team will gradually accumulate capspace as the season goes on via injuries and paper tansactions. So by midway through the season theyd be able to run a 22/23 man roster too

Bogo really stepped up for us in the playoffs before getting injured. He played most games on a pair with Hedman who did the heavy lifting but he should be a serviceable depth guy for you guys, plays physical and has a bomb for a shot. Take good care of him!

Keep in mind, there will very likely be some sort of taxi/practice squads allowed.

If that is the case, the Leafs could possibly run their starting 20 man roster, and then “demote” the scratches to the practice squad.

Dermott plays with a bit of snarl at times, and is 4-5 years younger than Holl. Dubas mentioned Dermott as a guy they saw who could possibly play the right side. Have to wonder if maybe they clear out Holl and his 2m. Or wait and see if Lehtonen is going to be an impact player.
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Dermott-Bogosian
Or
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Dermott
Lehtonen-Bogosian

I think I like the first option better...but that's just based on never seeing Lehtonen play an NHL game. Interesting times ahead but I definitely like this D core much better! Good work Dubas

Pretty funny how 3 of the top 5 picks from that draft just won a cup with Tampa Bay...

Anyway, it makes me happy to hear Bogosian bypassed other options to be a Leaf. I am disappointed that it was Pietrangelo, but playing for your hometown team is not for everybody.
And a 4th (Pietrangelo) won it last season.

The Leafs could technically make AP work still.....

Yeah sit him on the 2nd game of back to backs, and against the weaker teams in the league. Maybe play him 65 games (if they play 82) and let him rest a bit before the playoffs.
Jeebus.....we agree on something. I like this.

Probably explains why I woke up this morning with a full glass of wine on my headboard. lol

I don't think they will give up on Dermott because he is still young. I really liked him as a junior and thought he had potential. D-men develop slowly and at different ages, much like goalies.

Besides, maybe the new coaches will get more out of him?
OK....who hacked your account? 2 in a row.....well done!

He probably will play up the lineup, with Muzzin when the Leafs are protecting a lead.
According to you they will never have a lead because of Dubas.....

So does Sandin have protection now? Or are you still gonna whine from a Sabre perspective?

I like Bogosian as our #6 guy. A lot. But wonder who's going to be traded - Holl or Dermott?

Also, what do you do if Sandin or Liljegren demand a Top 6 spot in training camp? (very likely).

A:
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Dermott-Lehtonen
Bogosian, Liljegren, Sandin, Rosen

B:
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Lehtonen
Dermott-Holl
Bogosian, Liljegren, Sandin, Rosen

C:
Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin
(Trade Holl or Dermott)
Holl/Dermott, Lehtonen, Bogosian, Liljegren, Sandin, Rosen fighting for spots 4-6.

Mirtle speculates that the Leafs will run a 20 man roster on paper to accumulate as much cap space as possible. With the Marlies close it would be easy to do.

And they have quite a few guys who wont have to clear waivers so if they do need a body, it's VERY easy to call them up game day.

It’s interesting to have a respectable d. And this does t even factor Sandin (let alone Lilly) actually forcing himself onto the roster.

Needed someone to clear the crease at the backend besides Muzz; and now we got it. This would help especially on PK

unit 1 Muzz can clear the crease and unit 2 Bogo can. PK needed an overhaul after last season I hope it works. Especially with Paulrus behind the bench as an Assistant coach I am really thinking we should play well defensively. hoping players buy in and execute

You can only use LTIR if a player is going to miss a minimum of 10 games.

So what do the Leafs do if any non waiver-exempt player gets banged up and needs a few days off?

Use 19 players for multiple games? Put the player on LTIR anyway and have them miss 10 games instead of maybe just 2? And what if there are multiple players in that scenario, which happens multiple times a season?

I don't think it's quite as simple as people are suggesting.

Trading Holl or especially Dermott for one year of Bogosian doesn't seem like good asset management to me.

Leafs gotta go for it while JT can still skate and with Matthews and Nylander being UFAs in 4 years. We gotta try to maximize our opportunities for a shot at the cup.

Also with Sandin and Lily knocking one the NHL door I don’t mind Leafs trading Dermott or Holl for futures that can be used next season in a trade or drafts.

Dubas finally doing what he should have done last season. I am 90% satisfied with what Dubas has done this off season.

A long time ago we were discussing both the kids needing to play this year, Dubas has deftly taken the pressure off, perhaps out of growth necessity, but now the “kids” can be just that, push but not pulled to a place they can excel.

According to capfriendly, Sandin, Liljegren and Lehtonen are exempt.

Bogosian pending UFA would be exposed.

Leafs can choose 3 of Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Dermott and Holl to protect
Muzzin is a NMC so he is an automatic protect. I can see Toronto going the 4-4-1 in the Seattle draft.

A couple years ago I commented tha dubas would do with the leafs what he did with the Marlies when they went on their Calder run, he assessed the team for a couple years then added vets and toughness to get them over the hump.
Looks like he is doing this to the leafs now.
I think he will try to add a couple more pieces

Rielly Brodie
Lehtonen Muzzin
Dermott Sandin
Bogosian

?

If that is our D heading into next year I like it. I really hope they give Sandin a shot. Bogo is gonna be a solid 7th D. Someone is bound to get injured and you have a quality vet that can step right in and make a difference. One thing's for sure, this team is going to be hell of a lot tougher to play against. Muzzin coming back, addition of Simmonds, Brodie, Bogo. Well done Dubas, you might not be so bad after all.
