Not stating top 4 but I would play him like we did Polack if he stays healthy, 3rd pair but steady shifted so guys like him and Simmonds can actually make a difference other than riding the pines
Yeah sit him on the 2nd game of back to backs, and against the weaker teams in the league. Maybe play him 65 games (if they play 82) and let him rest a bit before the playoffs.

well,,he is not wrong

Lehto is not a sure enough of a bet where you would remove dermott as a safety value
I agree. I wouldn't move Dermott.

I also think it's idiotic to write-off Lehtonen because previous international UFAs have failed. That is idiotic. He is wrong.

You can't play a player who ends up being poor and hope they become magic either. I'm sorry but this team wants to win and you can't win by giving out spots to unproven 27 year olds from Europe or college hockey on the off chance they luck into an all star

I can honestly say, I do not care how well someone does in the KHL. Far too many of these "free wallets" fail just under the Leafs organization alone. There's absolutely no indication that he would do well in the NHL and quite frankly, the Leafs shouldn't be handing out spots so easily to such unproven commodities .

You also can’t sign a UFA of his stature and put him straight in the minors. That ruins the pipeline they are cultivating.

He is getting his shot. He will have a leash. He may crash and burn but you have to live up to the bargain.

His Stanley Cup team was weak on the right, so weak they often dresses 7 (4RHD) because their bottom 2 couldn't handle the full load - Shattenkirk and Bogo
We are weak on the right side as well but now we finally got some edge on this team and I hate it when they get bare bones ice time and limits their effect, I saw Tampa play in every series and Bogosian played just fine and ran some people over as well, Radulov seen some stars (no pun intended). Imho if he stays healthy I'd give him ice at least like Polack unless there is still a deal for say a guy like Weegar still in the making.

Imho Holl and Dermott got caught pinching too many times, Have no shot from the point or add any mean, nastiness to our back end

no, he is saying it's idiotic to remove the protection of dermott

I don't think they will give up on Dermott because he is still young. I really liked him as a junior and thought he had potential. D-men develop slowly and at different ages, much like goalies.

Besides, maybe the new coaches will get more out of him?

He responded to my post in which I stated "Lehtonen is going to play". I made no mention of trading Dermott.

If you're going to white-knight, at least be able to keep up with the thread.

Good pickup for the third pair. Nice to add some truculence around the edges instead of the Marincin's and the Malgin's of the world. I don't see Bogo as anything more than our 6th or 7th dman, but that's fine for a million bucks.

Really wonder what we're gonna do with Liljegren though. Lot of depth for him to claw through now.

Bogo deal is just for 1 year. Once that's up, it'll be time for Liljegren to take the third pairing RHD role. Could make for a smooth transition.

Again - I made no mention of Dermott. I believe Dermott should knock Holl down in the lineup and that it should be Dermott that lines up beside Muzzin.

I still have no idea what you are referring to in your above posts. I didn't state I'd move Dermott.

Leafs have moved on from Barrie and Ceci to now T.J Bodie and Bogosian manning the right side defense in their top 6.

I personally think that is an upgrade and should help reduce the goals against as a result.

I like the adjustments and think it will result in modest improvements. But worth noting that our D wasn't that bad last year.

It was the goaltending that killed us. Very bad goaltending.

The team can't keep both Mikheyev and Dermott as it currently stands unless they move another player. They aren't getting them for $3M combined. The Mikheyev contract is very uncertain. I like the player and all but he could get a back breaking arbitration ruling. I'm torn on which player should go. This might help: Mikheyev's expansion draft exempt if he's extended beyond the 2020-21 season.

This means the Leafs are all in on Morgan Rielly as a number 1 D. Terrific player and this should be a confidence booster for him. He has solid help all around him and can jump into that elite status.

Too many dmen. You can't carry 8. Sandin & Lehtonen do not belong in AHL. I would guess Dermott is traded?

According to capfriendly, Sandin, Liljegren and Lehtonen are exempt.

Bogosian pending UFA would be exposed.

Leafs can choose 3 of Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Dermott and Holl to protect

The way I see it, they can protect 4 of Rielly, Brodie, Muzzin, Dermott, Hall, and Kerfoot.

(EDIT: you also get to protect Mikheyev with Kerfoot but I think Seattle would go for the centre there anyway if we protected 4 D)

or you let them sort that out at camp ... internal competition !!!!!
the way i see it is lehtonen, sandin and bogosian will fight for the 6t and 7th spot ... loser sent down ...... its pretty much that simple.

Dermott seems like one of those players that will eventually get it right and turn into a solid top 4 guy like Stralman (not comparing their situations, just that Stralman became a non-flashy, solid dman.)

Unfortunately I wonder if that'll only happen with a fresh opportunity somewhere else. Hopefully a healthy start to the season and some new coaches can help iron out his game.
