What hurts from this trade isn't the assets given up but rather it's the potential cap space lost.

Boston, Tampa, and Florida each made more impactful trades to improve themselves, Toronto is still lagging behind.

Another first round exit coming up.
You do realize that the Leafs will have 4 million in cap space tomorrow (Mrazek and Clifford clear is 2.1 mill + 1.9 they currently have)

So a trade less than a month ago, which was clearly intended to help this year is comparable to one 10 years ago? I think we're done discussing this.

yup we are done... your adding trades together...

Florida traded for Hagg and Giroux and wasted all those picks... They could have gotten Jack E... terrible deals

You see how illogical you sound?

sure thing bud lol.. by your logic 5 7th rounders is better than a 1st as well.

He's essentially saying a few loonies are worth more than a toonie whereas you're trying to push that argument to the point of a few more nickels is worth more than a toonie. You've clearly lost the plot here and don't understand analogies very well.

No one needs logic to determine that the Leafs 1st and 2-2nds are almost IDENTICAL in value to Bostons. The problem I think is I'm making sense, and you're trying to muddy the water. Keep adding LOL's and hahaha's though. They're very convincing.

2 2nds in the same year and 3rd might get you in the 20th range for a 1st...

a 2nd in 2022 and a 2nd in 2023 and a 3rd in 2024 DOES NOT GET YOU A 1ST.

Good pickup for the Leafs and glad Francis did something to improve the Kraken, going forward. Win-win trade.

Giordano and Blackwell collectively are more of an improvement than Brandon Hagel. Hagel's value is that he's super cheap and signed for years.

Chariot and Lindholm are just insanely overrated imo. The idea that they've significantly improved those teams while Toronto hasn't is just silly but whatever.

Florida getting Giroux was indeed a huge move but they've spent multiple 1sts and still might go out in the 1st, the East is brutal.

No, I'm comparing apples to apples. You're trying to make them look like oranges when they're not. If you can tell me what the major difference between Boston and Toronto's 1st and 2nd round draft picks are in value WE'D like to hear it.

It's gonna take a heck of a lot more then an aging Giordano for the Leafs to contend with the likes of Tampa and Florida, it's gonna be sweet watch Leafs fans cry again come May! Lol

It all depends on where those picks are in each round. I'm sure if you think about it, even you can understand that.

Ok, so this is a fine trade (especially not giving up a 1st - credit Dubas there), but I don't think it pushes the Leafs over the top. They've been dealt a tough hand in the division they play in. Unless they do something tomorrow to fix the goaltending I just can't see them beating Tampa or Florida in a 7 game series. I guess if you're Dubas and the Leafs you have to "go for it," so from that perspective the trade makes sense, but if they go out one and done again it'll kind of hurt seeing those 2nd's go for nothing. But I guess that's the risk any contending team takes when bringing in a rental at the deadline.
Well said. I know they may not be done making moves yet, but right now it looks like they're bringing a knife to a gun fight.

I was going by the time of the trade and the position of the picks. Doesn't make a different that 2 2nds and changing 1 of them to a 1st doesn't make the same value

I guess the GM's have a magic 8 ball to know where next years pick and the year after are going to land....

also, by your logic Florida traded for Chiarot Hagg Giroux.. could have had Jack E and Lindholm

4 million to do what? Get a capable goalie and a dman that can clear the crease/ win battles.

They have the same holes today that they had 2 months ago.

Gio doesn't move the needle for them, he's not the guy who helps them win in the playoffs. 2 years ago he was, anyone who's watched a few of his games can see that he's a step behind nowadays.

They need more players like Muzzin and instead doubled down on the type of player they already had. They didn't get better from this trade and gave up assets to do it.
