Rielly, Tavares and Marner are the only contracts longer than two years right now. Rielly is the only contract longer than three years.

If nothing else, by avoiding these long term commitments we're going to be well positioned cap wise when Matthews and Nylander are up.
With what intentions, more than half the cap to the four F's?

It's the curse of being a Leafs fan. Last year it was Doomsday because Leafs lost Hyman, Bogosian, Andersen and Foligno. They surprised the world by getting record points, often with shaky goaltending.

Then it was "well they will lose in the first again", that came true sadly. It really shouldn't have.

I try to keep the faith with Dubas, he's at least working hard and never content. He certainly isn't shy about rolling the dice. Believe me, paralysis is worse.
Paralysis and rolling the dice because you are backed into a corner are both bad. No use trying to figure out which is worse.

They promoted Elkin weeks ago when Sanford was hired...looks like it was always going to be Murray from the Leafs management perspective.

That's fair I suppose. Do you agree with it?

I wouldn't have made the move they made yesterday, no. But I'm also struggling for alternatives that I'd feel great about.

If Matt Murray is the answer, it's because I exhausted all the possible trade avenues (which they may have), and the possible free agent options (which they haven't yet).

It's also a move I only make if Ottawa eats more than 25%. Their internal budgets probably don't allow them to sit on 50%, but I at least try and get that cap hit down to $4M.

Not every player really cares about winning that much. Some would rather live in a place that gives them their preferred lifestyle.

Sports fans in general (not just Leafs fans), really need to come to terms with the fact that your favorite players care significantly less about winning than the fans do.

We are just a few hours away from free agency opening up, and you're going to see a flock of players chasing the money / lifestyle / location, instead of winning situations.

Did you think he gets credit for games he didn't play like you think he didn't have to get paid?
Did you think he's only allowed to play 20 games max?

MOD I can freely admit when I make a mistake.

Can you?

Anderson and Campbell are way better than Murray…..

All that time, hearing the Leafs weren't being aggressive in negotiating with Jack, I figured Dubas had to have a plan.

Can't believe this was the plan.

Re: Murray himself, I liked his press conference today. Seems like a mature and serious player who is ready to embrace the challenge, seems focused, believes in the support staff in Toronto and was a Leaf fan growing up. Hopefully that makes a success story.

The Anderson ship sailed a long time ago - if you weren't claiming letting him go was a mistake a year ago, you don't get to call it a mistake now.

I'm going to wait until we see what the Campbell / Edmonton deal is tomorrow before I comment, but if it's in the 5x5 range, I wonder if it wasn't just a better option to give Jack that and then deal with the term down the road.

If elkin is right about what's been ailing Murray and they fix it and Murray returns to form its a huge win. This is where dubas is gambling. Last year Murray played well until injured. Injury is the second gamble. There is still time to get a 1B or proven backup, but is there enough cap space without a trade?
Of it doesn't work out, most likely big changes coming up.
How can we know which way it will go? Speciation is all there is right now

Honestly the 1B is the mistake he made last summer. Clogging up the cap with some other lesser than.

Just roll with Kallgren as back up and then who knows. He has proven capable enough for that.

All cap space would now go towards improving the defence. Starting with somehow hopefully resigning Boosh.

Stupid is a matter of perspective. 20 Games played is 20 games played. What do I know, there are a lot of stupid beliefs revolving around Dubas' competency in my opinion.
Everything is relative to one's perspective. You are entitled to your opinion just as everyone else is entitled to theirs.
To say theirs is stupid because it's contrary to yours is tunnel vision.

The issue with that is our 1A is injury prone and inconsistent

Isn't that a sad commentary if that's the case

Might I interest you in like 1/2 of the NBA kind sir. Hating hoops is cool now it seems
