You do realize if you send someone to the minors with a $6.3 million cap hit - that you get to bury $1.125 million of it? And if you (let's say) call up a goalie who makes $787,500, you actually save money? Subtract $787,500 from $1,125,000 is a savings of $337,500. Amazing, huh?

Once again - I will type this out slowly. Ottawa waived him to save money. Period. They saved money by waiving Murray and calling up Gustafsson. Here's another fact - teams cannot claim a $6.4 million player without having the cap space.
This is incorrect - the cap hit of $1.125 is buried, but they are still required to pay the full & complete salary. They didn't save any money whatsoever.

I'll bet you wished you had waited to understand how CBA's work before you went on this long winded and 100% incorrect rant?
Awkward...

A Stolarz and Blackwood combo would have come in at a lower hit than Murray alone. You would also have had the ability to reassess after the first year.

Those very same words could be used to describe Campbell and Kuemper. Both have missed multiple game stretches multiple times in their careers (even last season), and that concern would only be magnified going forward on contracts with the terms they will be receiving (rumored to be 5 years minimum).

The Leafs meanwhile, get a goalie who was .915 going into his final start of the season, a 3rd, and a 7th for $4.69 million in cap space for only 2 season.

People seem to have this bizarre impression that this will be the only goalie acquisition. Having mentioned that both current 'backup' goalies are both waiver exempt, this would seem to suggest that another move for a G is coming.

And don't get me wrong, I do not like this deal at all - because it let Ottawa off the hook. But realistically the overwhelmingly negative response is mostly rooted in disappointment based on the reported return for Buffalo - which we don't really know the full scope of the reported deal.

But at the end of the day, it's like finding a $5 bill on the ground and complaining that it's not a $20.
Unless you really really needed the $20 bill and the $5 just won’t do

Something that has nothing to do with you makes you mad?
I don’t think anyone literally gets mad over this stuff, it’s just a figure of speech. I come here to chat becuase everyone is die heart leaf fans but when I’m not here I’m not mad or let what happened with the Leafs affect my day. Leafs have no affect on my everyday life.

How much cap space do we have left to spend on a second goalie?

We have 6.3M left in capspace.

We have some movable pieces in holl, and kerfoot to further create capspace

I hope we don't just settle for sandin+Engvall extensions + backup and then a depth guy.

Ideally can get a solid top 6LW or good 3C if were confident that Robertson can play 2LW next year
So basically not much left to devote to another goalie

Currently no...

Dubas hopefully is ready to make a few moves tommorrow.

I mean we can get a 3M goalie, give 1.5M to Engvall and Simmonds then give 1.5 to a bottom 6er but I don't know if our forward core is good enough then

We would be spending near 8M on goaltending so maybe that would help us and we'd find having a proper tandem could result in playoff success.

I'd trade for Talbot or sign Samson to 3M if we chased a goalie who can be as good as Murray or better (an ideally inform Murray not unhealthy and leaky glove hand murray)

Hope we add some energy tomorrow.
Domi, ZAR, Motte, White, Vatrano, Lemieux, Helm, Lazar are all guys I have circled. I think if you can add any 2 of those guys, you're likely a more competitive team when the heat ratchets up in the spring.

Man. Can’t help but think another 25% retention would have positioned us to scoop up a few more UFA ground balls tomorrow.

Robertson needs 3-4 years in the AHL
