Not a huge Campbell fan but why wouldn’t they have just brought him back If this was the plan?

Business business business. This is an LTIR or nothing deal imo. Not close to the org any more. But I don't need to make a phone call, do any of us? This is a huge win. If the guy is finished, its LTIR, if he isn't he was a great tender.

Why the angst?

Guy that should have been traded was Vlad Guerrero as I called at the TOP of his services.

We could have gotten a Lindros like return perhaps.

Now Dubas can concentrate on trading Marner and the american.

Turn this all around.

And ya, I know I combined baseball and hockey. But its summer folks.

You know you effed up when the next day the player you aquired is the #1 most searched buyout option 😄 🤣

Roll the dice on thinking Murray will be a better option.

Out of the 65 goalies that played 1000 minutes, Campbell had top 10 D support(xGA) and Murray had bottom 5. How would Murray do on an actual good team again?

Campbell is also going to be wanting a longer-term contract for more money and has some pretty bad injury history as well.

Tht difference is it's the same cap hit for a guy who is at least guaranteed to play games for you.

Murray gets hurt we're blowing assets anyways.
Same with any and every player. Imagine paying assets and having that happen?

Lol and what do you expect to happen at the trade deadline when this blows up in his face. We also paid more to get rid of petr when we got in return. We trade down in the first with no goalie move we would have gotten more then we just got from the sens

When the move is universally panned by absolutely everyone it's probably not a good move.

We literally could have spun a wheel of cheap FA goalies picked two and ended up better.

If he doesn't play in the soo he's not on the team

No way to know for sure but I don't think that's it myself. I mean, it is term that is the issue with Campbell but I don't think they're that paranoid about Matthews leaving. Sure we lose in the playoffs every year but if he leaves, those losses are on him as well and we still have one of the top contenders here, he has Marner to play with and so on so there are many reasons to stay and stars like him rarely leave as UFA's anyway. So he could leave of course, it's just not that likely IMO.

I think it's just that 5 years for a guy with Campbell's history was seen to be a bigger risk than 2 years for a guy with Murray's history which seems reasonable to me.

I agree that Campbell was a risk at 5.5 x 5 or whatever he ends up getting but Murray is equally risky at the $4.7M cap hit. Overall though Campbell has been the more consistent goaltender in the last couple of years.

Thinking that we made the deal to stash him on LTIR is stupid as well why wouldn't we have just taken the whole deal and gotten a first if that was the case. We are going to play him

If it were strictly LTIR then Ottawa would have retained nothing. However that might be how Dubas sold this deal to Shanahan. Lower risk because of LTIR with a smaller buyout.

However that still leaves the team in a position without a starting goalie if they go that route.

This only works if they sign a decent backup who can play 40 games.

Thanks, interesting stat.

Term for me shouldn’t have been an issue, the position is too important.

Just got home from vacation. Reception was shit.

Heard we were getting Murray. Not really sold on this at all. I figured Leafs could of gotten a better pick or prospect with him too considering the contract and track record lately for Murray.

They must really think he can come back into form. Big gamble.

Who are the other goalies they may be looking at to play with him?

When the sell to shanny is he might go on a cup run like he did when he was 23, he played for me in the Soo, and we can ltir him with no idea who is going to play in net if we do and shanny didn't laugh in his face then he's going to deserve the firing as much as dubas will if it blows up

How many people on here realize Murray had a better year than Campbell if you're looking at expected goals?

Also, the amount of people in the media who still don't realize that the leafs were a good defensive team this year is maddening.

The LTIR does nothing for them if Murray gets injured after the trade deadline.

If he gets injured early, they are suddenly in a desperate position and will get bent over during a trade. There's also a third scenario where he plays but just sucks leaving them trapped.

Dubas should have learned from Mrazek as to what happens when going with an injury-prone goalie.

Taking this much risk and getting so little on a goalie that has never played more than 50 games in a season is outrageous. Just a bad trade no matter how you look at it.
