Holy hyperbole batman

Hutchinson in any meaningful role will be cost points

He's been horrific in 2020 and this year in 2022

I think we can still be a playoff team with ~.905 goaltending overall but Hutch as our starter or even 1b is a ~.885 goalie

We need Murray to be at worst below average and start around 45 games.

The other goalie +kallgren/woll need to be around average for a 2nd/3rd stringer

We should expect the offense to taper a bit this year. JT a year older, a lot of guys had some personal bests in production

Don't think we'll be as dominant in the reg season next year. Do think Murray can give a .910-.915 goaltending similar to Campbell so should still get 105-110 pts

We were like 31-15 or something with sub .900 goaltending...

Why would our offense taper off? Nothing more than wishful thinking, our stars get a year better, and JT is like 32, his footspeed was always what it is.

We gave a younger guy a shot. It's not worked. Can we give a different younger guy a shot? Or do we just have to stick with Kyle?

I'd much, much, much prefer Spezza to be the GM. He's a bit older admittedly, but donwe count him as old?
Aren't they kinda doing that? Spezz could have played another year, but he probably had a sit down with the Leafs management and they probably talked about his future, and now he is moving into a role where he can learn and develop his post career management type stuff.

So maybe a couple years from now he could actually be the GM.

there are undeniable risks here that precisely no one is ignoring, but what of the bolded isn’t true?
Lack of foresight. Signing when desperate - his fault there were few options
Goalies are voodoo is way over-used term
The other half the year Soup had all-star numbers

Our stars won't be seeing the offensive game improve really now

Matthews is a 110-115 pt player
Marner a 110ish pt winger
Nylander ppg
JT has been slowing down and isn't able to generate as much offense as he did when he first got year. More relaint on the PP as well

Bunting can he replicate a 60+ pt year again?

Kase did give 27 in 50 so that's offense that will need to be replaced if he leaves

Mikheyev had 21 goals. Those will need to be factored. Who can step up and provide that this year? Maybe Robertson

Engvall + Kerfoot both with career years. Is kerfoot a 50 pt winger or a 35 pt one like he was his first two seasons?

Can rielly maintain being a 70 pt d-man or does he fall back to 50ish pts like he was the prior two years.

Our offense had an elite year. Our PP was elite. A lot of players had career bigns across the board.

It will be tough to get that same type of offense in the reg season top to bottom of the line up again

The real issue is that he’s pretty much left with these options because of how he’s managed the cap.

I don't think cap really has much to do with it, there's just no goalies out there that are worth what they're going to get.

So you plug that hole somehow, risky for sure.

I wouldn't want to be bidding on the UFA goalies out there, they're about to get paid and they're all pretty mediocre.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
This is just you hoping, nothing more. They may very well improve offensively.
Not hoping it's realistic and not being blind to reality

Your hoping to see the offense continue to grow, nothing more.

While it would be great to get more production from the big 4,

They had 391 pts over 328 games or 98 pts/82 games per player (120 for 34, 112 for 16, 81 for 88, and 79 for 91)

That's already very high. Compare it to the Avs, Bolts, Oilers and you'll see there isn't much room for improvement.

Yup, as I said previously I really think Dubas was banking on Campbell as the #1 and is scrambling to patch holes at this point

The issue is Matt Murray has only played 14 games from January 1st to right now. When he did play he had some lights out games but also some real stinkers
That's one way to look at it. The other way is that he reportedly got injured and then played 2 more games he shouldn't have before he was shut down (giving up 13 goals in the process), and his sv % up until then was .940ish in those 12 games from Jan 1st.

I believe that health is the only issue here. And as much as I hate the structure of this deal because the Leafs let Ottawa off the hook somewhat, at the end of the day the Leafs got a goalie with upside plus 2 draft picks for absolutely no cost other than $4.7 m on the cap.

If you still think Mitch Marner is an anchor for this team, then there's no helping you.

The second you move a Mitch Marner, is the second you try & find a Mitch Marner to play for your team.
And you’d never find him.

no U ok

forget all the nonsense and just answer the question

Where is this sub 5m goaltender available to them that doesn't cost them assets?

This one will cost assets. "Future considerations" + whoever Leafs have to move out to account for his cap hit + whatever Leafs have to pay to get rid of him when he doesn't work out. Aside from the first rounder they gave up to get rid of Mrazek to make room for Murray. Lots of assets.

There's lots of others on here complaining for me lol
I do most of my complaining in person with friends/collegues etc. I already get into too many arguments on reddit (not even sports related) need to take step back from that. Not good for the soul hahaha.
Here I try to stay positive, tho i do wish we got more outta this trade.
Reddit was so promising. Threads with cute animal gifs. Threads with fantastic art. Threads with great places and things of beauty. Threads with people who share similar experiences as you. Threads with quirky news stories. Threads with tear-welling acts of kindness and poignancy. But we all get sucked into the negativity don't we? I haven't been there for years other than chasing a stream link. It isn't really the demons who lurk there planting seeds of conflict who are to blame. I'm to blame for taking the bait and chasing the dopamine hits, I'm still doing that here (and playing the heel here myself). I'm going back to my home construction project this afternoon. Sincerely, cheers.

How many other teams need to replace 5 players and a back up goalie with as little cap space as we have

Florida, Colorado, Rangers, Edmonton, Carolina, and Calgary all need to replace a significant amount fo their roster (stopped looking for more), and many more important positions than the 4th line and a backup goalie.

Our situation is not too dire if Murray is a #1, that is the issue right now (and I agree with the issue).

Oilers got 378 pts from their big 4 (McDavid, Drai, Kane, RNH)

Tampa got 385 pts from their big 4 ( Kuch, Stamkos, Point, Hedman)

Avs got 404 pts from their big 4 ( Mack, Makar, Kadri, Rantanen)

The real question how much Anaheim would have retained and what picks they would have attached for us to take Gibson off their hands and hope he bounces back.
