Well at least for the 2022-23 season Leaf fans do not have to wait until the spring of 2023 to have their souls crushed once again by an underperforming team. The 22-23 Leaf season ended on July 11, 2022. Murray will not even play 25 games for the Leafs this coming season. Murray has been injured or absent 13 times since 2017, I don't know why next season will be any different. Dubas, you are by far the worst GM in the history of the Leafs, probably the league.

It's the GM's job to plan ahead and come up with a solution to this glaring problem ahead of time, so to say there were no better options and that's proven because some fans on a message board can't come up with acceptable goalies is laughable, they are paid to figure this out and not us.

We as fans look at the decisions made by those in charge and if Dubas decided Murray was the solution after exhausting all options, that on top of his questionable track record (1st round exits every freaking year, questionable contracts and trades, etc etc), makes me very skeptical.

Geez looks like it's going to be 55 years and counting since I enjoyed a Leaf cup win back in 1967. I'll be lucky to see another Leaf cup win, and if it does happen ill probably be in diapers. That will be sh***y for me, as I wouldn't be able to enjoy the cup win!! What a Sh*t trade Dubas, you definitely got it up the a** !!
It’s fun to see your team win a championship. And as a Jays fan who.loves baseball as much as hockey, I was able to see them win their 2 World Series. And as I say, it was fun, but not Life-changing. I don’t think I’d look at my life any differently if the Jays hadn’t won.

To me, it feels like some sports fans are desperately trying to fill some kind of void in their lives and hoping that their team winning a championship will do so. But, as usual, I could be wrong.

More salary retention or better compensation and this deal wouldn't be too bad. Kinda sucks that we couldn't get either. Lets just pray that Murray can regain his form or else we're not going to get very far in the playoffs assuming we can even get there with a mediocre Murray.

Murray at 4.68x2 plus picks > Campbell at 5x5

I agree with this.

The issues is people here were expecting a superstar in net.

If Murray can give us consistent goaltending, that's all we need. The issue is if Murray becomes another Mrazek, then why did we have to trade Mrazek?

Mrazek at 3.8M X 2 + we keep our original 1st
OR
Murray at 4.68x2?

Murray actually has to be an average starter for this to make sense

Good lord you obviously have not taken a course on cost/managerial accounting. Could we have realistically taken this deal without giving up mrazek? That cost needs to be factored. The cost of cap space needs to be factored and the cost of not upgrading other spots need to be factored. Most of all we got less than what buffalo was going to get for 25 pct. So no, you're analogy makes no sense.

Mind boggling. You figure the Leafs would have been able to extract more since they were the only player and Dorion would be more desperate to dump him. Yet Dubas got less. Seriously how does this guy keep his job??

Dubas nicely lined up Campbell when he moved on from Andy. The same was not done here, I think Dubas planned/expected Campbell to stay and is now scrambling trying to find a replacement.

Leafs out: Mzarek (3.8), 1st
Leafs in: Murray (4.7), 2nd, 3rd, 7th

Doesn't scream a great plan, lost cap space while giving up the highest pick and taking on the biggest risk contract

Jon Elkin was the Soo Greyhound coach when Murray was there, so it is a little bit about the Soo.

But more so about Elkin.

to me seems a bit of nepotism. but given how dubas and then keefe and then Elkin got the job with leafs....

I come in Peace!

Murray has the experience and pedigree, he is bound to turn his game around. Between covid, concussion, injuries, our horrible defense and ton of bad luck it just did not work out.

I think he will rebound because the pressure to perform at a high level in Toronto vs the rebuilding Senators is totally different environment. He will play better for the Leafs then the Senators!

Goalies are such strange bread and hard to predict, wish you all the best and thank you for shopping with the Ottawa Senators, come again please.

You are absolutely wrong.

Don't mistake the feverish hunger for success, as some sort of feeble attempt to fill some non-existent void.
I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life - my son just turned 1, just past my 4th anniversary with my beautiful life, and we both got massive promotions at work that puts us on money that neither of us ever expected to make, which all pushed us into moving into a new house back in March.

The Leafs winning would STILL be a life changing event for me. For most of us.

It's okay if it wouldn't for you - you don't have the passion

There's absolutely no way in hell Dubas rolls with Murray as the primary starter. I'm thinking he is going to be the backup to someone more superior. I think he'll snag another goalie.

It will most definitely be a tandem situation with Woll and Kallgren as #3/4 depth. Question is how much can they afford for another goalie?

Guess we'll find out Wednesday

It would be honestly sort of shrewd if they flipped the picks they got today for Reimer - essentially locking in their tandem for next year without having to give up anything. If they've set the budget for goaltending at 7M for example - its not much dissimilar than getting Murray at 50% (no picks in the trade) + signing say, Samsonov or Comrie at 3M x 1

Thanks.

Goalies are a strange breed to predict, unless they show the type of consistency that can lead you to make conclusions - sadly, for many, Murray has shown that consistency in both his play & his health. That's what is primarily feeding today's concern.

Looking forward to having more legitimate Battle of Ontario's down the road - the Sens offseason moves have been exceptional so far. All the best.

So you are paying Murray 4.75m to be a backup and sign a starter for how much ?? This guy is the starter and they will sign a backup like Comrie.
