I understand that.

But at the end of the day if you can't handle this, then you can't handle the playoff pressure to deliver a series win for the leafs.

If it doesn't work out I hope we miss the playoffs rather than another first round exit because then we can actually get something with our first rounder than another useless drop down trade.
He's won two cups as the playoff starter. I don't think that's an issue for him. Likely why Dubas is betting on him. Still gotta be a trash feeling knowing your new fan base is pissed with the deal that got you haha

I'm honestly lost for words

What the **** are we doing? A 3rd and a 7th to take on a 4.8M goaltender who hasn't been able to stop a beach-ball for years

This is stupidity, we were supposed to be the organisation that was going to look outside it's biases and find talent everywhere and no matter what it looked like

We're the Toronto Maple ******* Soo

we are reaching the levels of tampa bay when they couldnt find more the a 1 c to backstop them. they finally got bishop and drafted vasi after about a decade or so of futility
they drafted Vasi and got Bishop 3 years after drafting Hedman and 4 after Stamkos. Unless you’re starting the clock before then that was hardly a decade.

One can only hope Murray agrees to LTIRetirement.

Good chance Leafs will paying more to dump his salary next offseason than they got for taking him.

Awful deal, probably one of the worst ones he’s made since becoming GM.

Murray, the goalie who has been shit for 2 years and hasn’t played is the goalie he’s willing to fall on the sword for. Unbelievable
Too be fair he had a .899 his last year in Pitt too.

Kind of loving the freak out around here. Surprisingly, I am calm - Probably because I don't really care anymore.
The overall mental fragility and 50% of the cap to 4 players are the bigger problems. Still don't like the trade, but meh.

Even if Murray wins the Smythe and Vezina, this can’t be looked at as a good trade.

Dubas had all the power here and Ottawa was offering more to another divisional rival.
Someone probably already said it and so I'll join em.

Smythe and the vezina makes this THE w.

Dubas couldn’t throw in an asset to get the money down to 50% or even at least 40, a 6th or a 5/10 prospect Ottawa likes or whatever?

I’d even have felt comfortable giving this money to Jack, but I bet he wants about a mil more and five years.

Gonna see some moves on Wednesday.

here's my issue with that. That was before his injury troubles and for a pens team that had vets who had playoff success. Right now he's coming from ottawa, with absolutely no momentum.

My issue isn't even with the player. Let's say he pimps out a 930 and wins the vezina. This is still a piss poor trade considering buffalo got more just two days ago. IN fact with murray vetoing that deal it should have given dubas even more power but somehow this idiot messed that up as well. This cus just paid 2 dollars for a loonie. It makes no sense.

BUt yeah i hear ya. Hopefully he does well. But if he doesn't and kyle gets fired..... i'm okay with that.

Personally I think we should have spent first(s) and prospects on Gibson instead of getting a team to pay us for the guy who's been better recently. It just makes perfect sense

We did spend a 1st to get Murray:

To Toronto:

Matt Murray
38th overall in 2022
3rd
7th

To The Everybody Else

Petr Mrazek
25th overall in 2022
Delta of +/- $800,000 in cap space

High Risk move ..

Murray only played 27 games in 2020-21 season and 20 games in 2021-22 .. 47 games total over 2 years due to injuries which is just a little over 1/2 a season.

Even going 3 years back to his Pens days he only played in 38 games in 2019-20 season.

Leafs still might need a goalie cable of playing 30+ games based on Murray's recent injury history past.

Surprisingly this move doesn't have me too nervous

I actually think Murray has a big regular season for us. Hope he does in the playoffs as well

We were dissing kampf, Bunting and kase a bit too

I thought we'd be a 95-100 pt wildcard team last year.

Think we'll be 2nd in our div again with 110 pts. Hopefully can win when it matters
I feel the same. We're in the minority, lol.

If he can stay healthy, I think good chance he can be good for us.

Now, there's obviously a high chance things can go south, but I'm going to at least give this a chance.

A lot of overreacting in here. Some of you need to take a breath. If this doesn't work, they can acquire someone at the deadline. Nothing good on the market right now.

While this may be true, in that case they will also have another big goalie contract on the books after having just used our first rounder to get rid of the last one. Is that really the way a team should be managed?

It may work out, but all logic says that this is a bad trade. You are paying more for a guy who has played poorly and been frequently hurt than the guy you just shipped out, getting only 25% retention and no significant assets back. Perhaps even more concerning, there seems to be at least some evidence to suggest hat the GM was fixated on Murray as his primary option, rather than as a fallback if other options failed which I think would not create quite as much anger among the fans.

I still want to see what else happens this week. But this is a terrible start.
