Very disappointing retention. Very disappointing sweetener to take him.
If Jack signs for anything in the very low 5s, unless his term is stupid, it will be very disappointing yet again.

This is the hill that Dubas will live or die on. I can't believe it's Matt Murray for that price.

Matt Murray is now the 10th goalie Leafs have gone through since Dubas was hired according to Mark Masters on TSN. .
we are reaching the levels of tampa bay when they couldnt find more the a 1 c to backstop them. they finally got bishop and drafted vasi after about a decade or so of futility

It's because we have 6 first round exits in a row and our core window is slowly closing and Dubas genius idea is to go out and get a project goalie that MAYBE can return to form, as of right now he is a bad goalie and worse than the one we just let go.

So yeah, people are allowed to be a bit upset, hopefully it works out, i truly hope it does.

But looking at it objectively, we just got worse in the most important position in the sport, banking on a has been returning to form, hypothetically wasting another year of this core.

Yeah, we can be pretty damn upset about this.
Matt Murray on his game is better than Jack Campbell on his game. We just need him to be healthy and get back to it. To say we got worse in net is something nobody can say until seasons end. One way or another people will be happy....we get a bonafide #1, or he stays on a downward trajectory and Dubas gets canned. Win/win scenario really. KD set his nads on the table with this one

For me just going by the other available options I would rather roll the dice on a 25-year old former first round pick in Samsonov than run retreads like Talbot or Holtby.

I haven’t heard great things about Samsonov either but I still think there is upside with him.

Samsonov/Murray

Murray/Talbot or Holtby

I easily gamble with Samsonov in this possible scenario and we are really running out of options with our limited cap space and what is available.
Holtby is retiring iirc
Not sure of the cap hit on Talbot but that would be ok with me.
Samsonov, Imo, falls in the same category as Murray in that it's up our new revamped goalie coach to right his ship.
Big toss of the dice getting Murray.

Well if this is Dubas’ last season at least a new GM will be able to come in and prioritize re-upping Matthews right away.

Feels like we are in the verge of a retool, which will make for a fun season..
I'm fine with this boom or bust attempt, as I can't tolerate another year of Keefe.

There better be more moves made. Murray cannot be the starter for next season!!...... Can he???

why couldn’t Shersterkin have played for the Soo. who knew the best day of being a leaf fan in the last few months was losing game 7 again.

No it isn't. Just because you paid for something increases in value doesn't mean its okay to overpay for something. It simply makes ZERO sense. That's financial illiteracy unfortunately.

For someone spouting financial literacy you don't seem to understand asset value. Assets underperform all the time and people bet on that. Dubas is betting that Murray is a $4.5M goalie, which would make this fair value. Do I believe that to be true? No I don't think Murray is going to be worth his contract, but I'm risk adverse.

Instead of throwing shit in the air and being a condescending ass, try having an actual conversation. Actually on second thought, don't. I'd rather not converse with you beyond this point

Im fine taking a gamble on Murray as part of a tandem. But the sweetener seems underwhelming, especially given that only 25% retention was involved.
I truly like the Murray gamble. But agree I wish there was more sweetner or more retention. Was a touch shocked there myself

Apparently there are 18 goalies in the NHL that have a higher cap hit than what we are paying for him and the expectation is that Campbell and Kuemper will get North of it too

I wonder if the Leafs numbers department thinks we just landed the 18th best goalie in the game. If not, I don't think they're Moneyballing properly.

Only 25% retention makes this a clear loss. This is clearly a desperation move, so we consider this the death throes of Dubas' tenure as GM of the Leafs.

I really hope Murray makes a lot of people feel dumb about their posts. Let's welcome the damn guy to TO! If right now it doesn't seem like the greatest deal, whatever, I get it....but for the love of all that is holy, please stop crapping on a guy we're gonna desperately need this season. Should be getting behind him and building his confidence back up. New team, fresh start. We need to stop eating our own.
I agree. I totally understand the disappointment, I was hoping for at least 50% retention.

He's a Leaf now. I welcome him, and holding off until the season to make judgment. I'm hopeful that Murray can bounce back and our new goalie coach puts some serious conditioning work onto him.

Thinking through, it's even worse. We traded down in the draft and got paid a 3rd and 7th to get a goalie who makes 400k more than mrazek and probably will be worse.
