"If he's healthy...he'll be good. "

We just tried that with mrazek....and then had to move outa the 1st round - just to rid him....and he was cheaper.

Dubas shoulda been canned before the 'boni hit the ice after gm7

"We should have just signed Campbell" 🤡

You guys, Matt Murray had a great season last year before his last two games and a concussion. Even if you don't see value in Murray, it's very likely both Toronto, and Ottawa do. We're literally picking up a goalie with a Stanley cup pedigree (career .921 in the playoffs) and coming off a season where he did this:

I'm disappointed in *only* getting back a 3rd with 25% retention as from our perspective it appeared like we had Ottawa over a barrel, but its not even remotely a bad trade. It's not close to a win as we took on all the risk, but we got paid to take on a 28 year old starting capable goalie with 2 cup rings. I can't believe (well I mean, it is HFLeafs) people are saying things like: "The worst deal Dubas has ever made" like the Foligno deal didn't happen.

We got paid to take on a potential #1 goalie at a 25% cap hit. The return was light, but again, we got paid to take on a #1 goalie lol.

The problem is we don't have enough cap space to get another guy like Samsonov. We are pretty much hoping for a guy like Comrie is willing to come here cheap enough, or we are running with a tandem without the kind of upside.

If the return was this light and 50% was attached, well it would be light but at least makes sense if you really believed in Murray. But this is not really good on either front. It is light on return and retention. In a vacuum, it is not good enough. The only thing I am holding out hope for is that this is not really "it".

It is not Foligno bad, but Dubas has made more rookie moves in Years 3 and 4 than he did before that.

hopefully they go get Blackwood Thunder Bay will be represented well, just scared what Dubas will give up...

I will say this...assets and cap hits aside, if I could choose Murray or Campbell as our starting goaltender in the playoffs with both of them healthy and at the top of their game, I would prefer Murray.

That being said, Dubas needs to acquire some insurance in goal before the season starts.

Not justifying this trade but i would rather have Murray off the books in two years or a buyout/trade after this season than having Jack at 5/5.5 for the next 5 years.
Murray has one playoff rounds(two cups) and had not bad numbers at times last season(like Jack) but injuries and mental health after he lost his father have derailed him and is only 28.
The goalies this offseason are not guys i would want longer term at all as they are all unproven and have question marks.

That's a disappointing lack of salary retention.

And hey I hope he works out great (of course) but I have a real difficult time justifying in my head that Murray 2022 is worth $4.7M while Campbell was lowballed at $2.75M or something like that.

There's a case to be made that Murray was actually better last season than Campbell.

This is not a great look. They needed more salary retained to make this viable. I’m not saying Murray can’t bounce back but that’s a big risk at only 25% retained

So after thinking about this for 45 minutes, the only positive I can think of if this gamble doesn't work out is Murray is such a bandaid he probably already owns property on Robidas Island. You could disappear his money on LTIR.
That’s the spirit!

THIS is why people can't take you seriously at this point.

You being optimistic and liking murray? Fine, that's great. You're a good poster too so I respect your opinion but holy shit are you a dubas homer.

How is this NOT a bad trade? Like you're talking as if there is 1) no risk with Matt Murray, 2) We didn't get paid to take on murray. You're forgetting the cost of the salary cap and the fact that we had to downgrade from 25 to 38 to get rid of mraz to make this happen. And 3) you're forgetting that we got less than what buffalo got.

When you're evaluating a trade you're pretty much ignoring EVERY other factor. A 3 and a 7th is not much of a payment either.

Yeah, they just had the best season pts wise ever as a team, looks real grim.

You should def take a break tho
Single season point records is all they have. Problem is your bar is set so low you defend mediocrity like it is greatness.

I wonder if the Leafs numbers department thinks we just landed the 18th best goalie in the game. If not, I don't think they're Moneyballing properly.
I think it's more a statement of what the goalie market looks like.
Gregoriev got 3.5 Husso 4ish I think and they are very questionable, especially Gregorev.
Bottom line it this will all depend on what Murray provides for us. If he has a great year we will all be happy, if not most likely dubas is gone and most will be happy. Either way happiness is on the way

Thats fair and reasonable, but here is my question. Do you think with 6 million, you can find a backup, resign Sandin Engvall, and create a new 4th line?

In the off season. I don't thinks he starts next year a Leafs.
Pretty bold prediction. The fact that Dubas stated he won't trade him while he's the GM has me skeptical. We'd have to get a really good return, I just don't know if that would happen.

Let's see how things play out.

I feel the same. We're in the minority, lol.

If he can stay healthy, I think good chance he can be good for us.

Now, there's obviously a high chance things can go south, but I'm going to at least give this a chance.

If Murray comes in and starts winning folks will stop caring pretty quickly. He's got the ability to, and has obviously passed the medical exam, so we as fans can only do so.

I think folks also forgotten how bad Leafs goaltending was for the entirety of 2022 so far too - Jack had a very underwhelming second half
